Do you have any proof asylum seekers are being turned back as quickly as they arrive???

Do you have any proof asylum seekers are being dumped on Australian streets with little or no security and background checks???

Or do we take your word for it???

Huh Huh Huh

We take the word of the Immigration Minister and Radio 2GB.

They'd never tell a lie.

Like it or not, boat arrivals are down a considerable amount since Abbott became PM. Expect that to continue following the deportation of around 70 people from SL within 5 days of their arrival here by boat. The message: you won't get in, so don't waste your money.

im pretty sure 99% of Australians are going to be very happy with the results so far.

Unfortunately, it seems that the other 1% of the nutters write on this forum.

The boats had slowed down prior to the election thanks to Rudd's PNG Solution and Abbott is continuing with this policy.

He is being given false credit.

Indeed. I've noticed how shrill the Reich are whenever any suggestion is raised that claims Abbott is responsible for any problems occurring now; they are quick to blame the previous government. Yet they are quite eager to accept all credit for anything happening since the election.

The double standards are blatantly obvious yet they don't see it.

Quote:
As his ministers are gagged and Abbott chooses to run the government in secrecy with whispers behind closed doors - you don't know what the truth is.

This is also a concern. A culture of secrecy brought Kennett undone in 1999. Micromanagement brought Rudd undone in 2010. Yet Abbott won't learn these pertinent historical lessons. Add to that Abbott's own goal of not giving a pay rise to staffers despite an increase to their workload and we've got quite a mix.

The last few boats have had African's on board (from Somalia). I'd say the smugglers are making sure their clients are from war torn countries this time. This guarantees a visa . The smugglers wouldn't prefer Somali refugees because they are so poor they can't pay upfront payments. But they probably figure they'll get their money via the Australian taxpayer when they start their new careers as dole bludgers. A smart piece of racial profiling by the smugglers. They are a smart and cunning bunch.

I just wonder if asylum seekers are getting mixed messages after the change in government. Before the election, Rudd's policy was very clear - you get picked up by Australian authorities, you have no chance of being settled in Australia. The message was very clear - they even took out full page ads in Australian newspapers to remind any contacts the asylum seekers might have in Australia.

Now the government has changed, the message seems to have changed. Abbott and Morrisson have been talking about bringing back TPVs. Well if you are to be settled in PNG, where you are PNG's problem, why on earth would they need TPVs issued by the Australian government? Then the publicity stopped - there is no longer loud boasting from the government that if you seek asylum in Australia by boat, you will not be settled in Australia. Abbott seems to want to keep this policy, but for some reason he only seems to want to whisper it. Significantly also, is that the turn-the-boats-back policy seem almost certainly to be dead in the water (pardon the pun) - traded in for non-confrontation with Indonesia and a free-trade agreement. And if Abbott is prepared to back down on the most important component of his boat policy, is there any bounds on what he will capitulate on in this policy? This point won't have been lost on the people smugglers. Now we are getting reports that the government seems to be moving away from PNG - at least in regards to processing. Does this extend to resettlement? Its really not clearly explained.

If I was a people smuggler, I would be playing on this doubt. Tell desperate asylum seekers that its is no longer clear that genuine refugees will be automatically sent to PNG. That was Rudd's policy, and Rudd has gone. Abbott is conspicuous in not wanting to advertise the PNG solution. So why not spread the rumour in the refugee camps in Indonesia that the PNG solution has been abolished.

Please explain.

Maybe Abbott doesn’t want to stop the BOATS! It is clearly a govt of no talents that we see so maybe having BOATS around to point to and berate the ALP is a deliberate ploy?

Ah, I think you're onto something here. Mr Abbott says to stop the boats, then does everything in his power to keep the boats, blames the leftards and sweeps into an election victory.

I don't know why you'd say that's a government of no talent. It sounds like genius to me.

Thank heavens the grown-ups are now in charge.
