Treasurer Joe Hockey says Commonwealth debt limit being increased to $500 billion

The Federal Government has announced a $200 billion increase to the Commonwealth debt ceiling and a six-month audit into Government spending in the face of a "deteriorating" budget position.

Treasurer Joe Hockey announced the measures after a federal Cabinet meeting in Canberra today.

"The Coalition government will have to increase the debt limit for Commonwealth Government securities to $500b," he said...

Actually, there has. First it was Rudd, then Gillard and then Rudd 2.0 again, as if his first time around wasn't punishment enough for us. By far, the last 6 years of government under Labor was the worst this country has ever (and probably will ever) endured without doubt.

Did anyone really expect any different from an Abbott government? Yes he's good at surfing, running, boxing and fighting fires - but that doesn't make for a good prime minister.

So much for bringing the budget into surplus. $500 billion ceiling? They must have made some very expensive promises to their corporate mates. Even cutting away much of the government aid to the needy isn't going to pay for their promises.
