Maybe one day when becomes independent with Aussie monarch or president the country will have more space to develop own national and cultural identity and to have international policy that will serve Australian interest.

Yes it was a missed chance and a sad day indeed when a real Australian patriot was undemocratically eliminated from the politics by foreign colonial power monarch.
