Mohammad married jewish women

Jewish race or religion?  Because the Koran seems to clearly state you can't marry someone of a different religion

"Do not marry unbelieving women until they believe. A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though if she attracts you. And not marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe. A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though if he attracts you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the fire but Allah beckons by His grace to the garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His signs clear to mankind; that they may receive admonition. (al-Baqarah, 221)."

Even though they were jews and christians, they still believed in Allah, and thus where beleivers, and muslims were allowed to marry them.

"christians" and "jews" at the time of revelation were not the same as christians and jews today. These were people who still had the opportunity to embrace islam, as the quran was only then being revealed. Christians and jews today choose to reject islam and have gone on their own path. However until the quran was revealed, "christians" and "jews" - were effectively muslim, since they followed the only scriptures available at that time - they were followers of the islamic prophets moses and jesus (the only christians Muhammad knew of didn't believe in Jesus's divinity or the holy trinity). Thus there is no contradiction in saying "people of the book" are "lawful" (in marriage), while at the same time saying these people must be believers - as per stratos' verse.

Back in those days, the jews and Christians still took allah as there lord, thus in essence where beleivers and muslims where allowed to marry them.

So it is ok for a muslim man to marry a christian or jewish woman according to the Quran yet it is not ok for a muslim to take christians and jews as friends?

Quote:
Pickthal- all of them say the same thing-

O ye who believe! Take not the christians and jews for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who takes them for friends is one of them.
Lo Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

"friend" is an incorrect translation as I've pointed out before.

"protector" or "guardian" is more accurate.

A resident Islam critic who claims to represent western values said:
Quote:
Outlawing the enemy's uniform - hijab, islamic beard - is not depriving one's own people of their freedoms.

wally, Stavros, Gandy, Brain, Tits - what do you like about Islam?

I am looking at it and I can't honestly see the attraction. Post-1945 (or 1989) it is very difficult to ignore its stark fascist, exclusivist tendencies, its totalitarianism, its grim obsessions with sex and domination and death.

I am puzzled by how grown-ups can still see in it anything attractive enough to  outweigh all these heavily repulsive characteristics.

What do you see that I don't?i

Because I've met Muslims, have been friends with Muslims, and every single one I've met is not the offensive caricature you believe them to be.  None of them wanted to commit any acts of violence.

But seeing as you look at a headscarf and see a terrorist, I'm guessing you have never had a conversation with a Muslim.

I am talking about Islam. I am not talking about your friends. I am not asking what you like about your friends.

I am asking what YOU like about Islam.

Sorry if this is too complex for you.

Maybe your inability to comprehend the difference IS the answer I am looking for.

A religion is its people, and based on those I have personally met they are not the psychopaths you believe them to be (at least not the majority).  I don't judge Christians by what the bible says, but by Christians themselves, so why shouldn't I do the same with Muslims?

Soooo....  what do YOU like about Islam.  I am very sorry, I cannot make it any simpler. I can see it still eludes you but I am afraid the the difficulty is at your end.

What     do      YOU     like     about     Islam?

Six words. Do you understand the sentence? (you can ring a friend if you like)

Very good. Funnily enough, that's exactly what I dislike about Islam, its followers.

Each to his own, what?

If it was some dead 7th century sect with no living followers, nobody would care about it except a few academics.
But it has followers who want something I couldn't stomach. And I say so.

And they think I am racist for not wanting Islam.

Folks are queer, don't you think?i

Except the vast majority of its followers do not want any violence.  This is what you constantly seem to ignore.  You point to a few isolated cases of extremism and paint them all with the same brush.

Most Christians weren't involved in the Inquisition or the Crusades.
Does anyone care?
No.

Ask them about Aisha, or apostates, or abrogation, or some of the 'colourful' quotes from the koran.

they change
