Non-Core Promises
Nov 30th, 2013 at 11:30am

Now that the Coalition are in charge, they will have non-core promises.

These aren't lies, their just promises they can't fulfill and are "non-core".

The nbn - they stated 25mbps minimum to all Australians by 2016 - we know this is now false.
Gonski is gonsk.
Repealing the carbon tax and the cutting of power bills.
Stopping the boats.

What else has our new government failed at?

If only it was that honest.

Making a promise that you later find you can't keep is one thing.
Making a promise that you know you won't be able to keep is another.
Making a promise that you have no intention of keeping, even if you can, is yet another.

UNLIKE Gillard, he has NO minority government to justify a reversal of election policy

Come next election, working class families of the

Non-core promise definition - and origins

A commitment to deliver (a service, funding, an item) that is subsequently set aside. The broken promise is then explained with the glib expression "oh, but that promise was non-core"

Now generalised to non-political situations, too.

Origin:

Australian federal elections at the turn of the 20th/21st centuries.
The conservative party (known as the
LibNat
coalition) made a number of election promises which were broken soon after the election.

The prime minister,
John Howard
, attempted to explain this behaviour by claiming that some promises are "core" and some are "non-core" and thus, don't count.

Not only did "No tax increases, no new taxes" turn out to be a non-core promise, but in the campaign,
Howard had also given a solemn undertaking that "I'm not going to break any promises".

That one was certainly "non-core"

Laurie Oakes (Australian political reporter/writer)

Every child deserves an education, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't believe that.
But in a supply / demand market capitalist society, you would agree that people who pay should receive a better one - as in better facilities, lower class numbers per teacher etc.

Supply and demand & return for investment.
