I think I mentioned somewhere else that I recently bought the DVD series "Hazell", a 1970s private eye show based on a book written by the Socceroos former coach Terry Venables.
Well I watched an episode last night (indulging in nostalgia while escaping from the Great British Bake-off).
Couldn't believe it. It was a direct take on The Maltese Falcon, the old Bogart movie.
The valuable statuette was there, the characters were all there - the Fat Man, the Peter Lorre look-alike, the enforcer, and the glamorous chick who takes the fall in the end.
The actor who played the Fat Man even had the little chuckle down pat.
I didn't realise what was going on till half way through.
Enjoyed it though, but how do they get away with it!
