Just came up.....

It is all about the agreement reached between Hayseed and East Timor about gas in 2006.  It seems there are allegations that Hayseed bugged the East Timorese private rooms during the negotiations leading up to that agreement.............giving, of course, Hayseed a massive advantage.  The East Timorese are (rightly) staying that, in those circumstances, the eventual agreement is null and void.

Latest news:

Tony is raiding legal offices & using thuggery against a lawyer.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-12-03/asio-raided-lawyer-representing-east-timor...

Quote:
Claims ASIO raided office of lawyer representing East Timor in spying case.
A lawyer representing East Timor in its spying case against Australia says his office has been raided by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).

Bernard Collaery says two agents seized electronic and paper files this afternoon from his law practice in Canberra.

He says the agents identified themselves as working for ASIO, and would not show his employees the search warrant because it related to national security.

East Timor has accused the Australia Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS) of covertly recording Timorese ministers and officials during oil-and-gas negotiations in Dili in 2004.

Like the lawyer said

Australia never used to be like this

Another thing he said is that 'this won't be the end of it'

Fascist Germany's got nothing on Abbott's Australia.

Can Tony give us just one day when he doesn't cause a domestic or international sh1t storm.

I want my old Australia back, the one where we had some form of decency.

Have you ever seen an admission of guilt quite like this?

The ex ASIO bloke that should be flying to the Hague to give evidence has been arrested.

News just in....they've cancelled his passport, so he can't go and give evidence.

I hope the Hague courts will set up a video link so he can give evidence.

It's wrong for a wealthy nation to steal from its poor neighbour, just so wrong!

I hope East Timor win the case, in spite of Abbott sabotaging the evidence.

What is of greater importance is the separation of powers.
Lawyers are supposed to have privileged communication with clients
& the law should be separated from Govt.

ASIO must have acted illegally.

I hope we get a high court ruling on this case.

I remember Downer at the time going around saying how he wasn't about to compromise Australia's national interest for East Timor.  Turns out the "national interest" was the interests of Woodside (Australia - which has a 33% share in the project) along with its international joint venture partners ConocoPhillips (USA, 30%), Royal Dutch Shell (UK/Netherlands, 27%) and Osaka Gas (Japan, 10%). That's what the "national interest" is now days and that's who ASIS was really working for when they were bugging the ET cabinet.  How much did Downer know?  He must have known it was going on and probably authorised it.
