If Rupert Murdoch bought the ABC, obviously there are those on the left who would be outraged.

But think of it this way. If he bought it, wouldn't it be better business-wise from his perspective to have it as a leftist media outlet? Why make it right wing when it would eat into his own market share?

The guy clearly isn't stupid and I don't see him turning the ABC right wing. So I don't understand the cry's of the left against selling the ABC, given that we are paying for something many feel is pushing leftist propaganda.

you are forgetting one very important point ... he doesn't need to worry about it eating into his share. He already has 70% of Australias media, and to give him the ABC would just about tie it all up for him. You will have forevermore as your PM whoever Murdoch likes.

Did you forget Murdoch backed Rudd in 07? He's regretted it ever since, as have a large portion of ordinary Australians.

does that in anyway excuse Murdochs abuse of his powers?

so it is abuse in 2013 but not in 2007...

I think I see how this works for you...

Let's see. Murdoch meeting with world leaders and candidates behind closed doors, then running their parties' propaganda arms during election campaigns, and then meeting behind closed doors when they get elected - abuse?

Not at all.

It's demokracy.

Let's see. The entire media empire of Rupert Murdoch - 70% of Australian newspapers, a number of cable news networks, publishing arms, online news, an unsurpassed global media monopoly -

Versus Sydney radio station 2KY.

Good point, Longy. I think the ACTU wins hands down, don't you?

Actually, Longy, I take that back. I think John Singleton bought 2KY.

Sounds like Rupert's number one after all.

as you so often do, you miss the point.  both are lobby groups and that are merely some of the larger ones among literally hundreds.

You’re right, Longy. The ACTU officially represents millions of Australian workers. Rupert’s lobby group represents one.

Thank heavens the grown-ups are back in charge.

How can we compare backroom deals like the Accords with Rupert’s backroom deal with the London Metropolitan Police?

Growth in real wages and preventing inflation  is far more sinister.

SHAME LABOR SHAME.

Rupert is probably one of australias most successful businessmen ever. (and dont we need some of those)

he should be an inspiration to all young people.

teachers should teach his business strategies in business courses at university.

he is a national icon.

i admire and respect the guy.   sorry if he's a tall poppy and you have been affected by the green eyed monster.

Murdoch is NOT an Australian - doesn't pay tax here, cant vote here, doesn't live here, doesn't own an Australian passport.

Murdoch is in the top 7 most destructive individuals to have lived in the world over the past 120 years

Today, nobody even comes close to Murdoch's level of unbridled immorality, greed, corruption and superficiality

I can understand why you worship him you filthy decaying slab of rotting weasel excrement

Forget the business, Aquascoot - look at the product. Fox News, the Daily Tele, News of the World.

Demokracy, innit.
