Former federal MP Craig Thomson once reprimanded a Health Services Union (HSU) staff member over her misuse of a work credit card, a court has been told.

Thomson, 49, is facing dozens of dishonesty charges over his alleged misuse of union-issued credit cards on escorts and other personal expenses while national secretary of the HSU and a Labor MP.

His former HSU colleague, Nurten Ungun, said Thomson had instructed staff on the purpose of the credit cards when they were issued.

'Mr Thomson told us it was for work-related expenses,' Ms Ungun told Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Ms Ungun said Thomson had once reprimanded her for using a credit card on flights and accommodation for a personal trip.

'Craig confronted me with the expense,' she said.

Ms Ungun said she repaid the money to the union before resigning the following day.

Former HSU bookkeeper Belinda Ord told the hearing that Thomson had told her to write guidelines on credit card usage after another staff member had signed up to an astrology service.

She said Thomson would often use memorandums, rather than receipts, to justify his credit card expenses.

Thomson has pleaded not guilty to 145 charges of obtaining financial advantage by deception over the alleged misuse of $28,449.

The hearing continues before Magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg.

Thomson lost his NSW Central Coast seat of Dobell at last September's election, standing as an independent but receiving less than four per cent of the primary vote.

Thomson, also a former Labor MP, has pleaded not guilty to 145 charges of obtaining financial advantage and property by deception while he was the HSU's national secretary.

The case centres on allegations Thomson used union funds to pay for pornography and prostitutes.

Gerard Curtin, an accountant for Victoria Police, testified he had analysed the union's MYOB files as part of the investigation into Thomson.

The court heard the way Thomson's spending was classified in the union system was whimsical and ad hoc.

Mr Curtin said there was a period of about a year where all of Thomson's credit card transactions were classified as travel expenses.

He said the HSU's accounting system recorded the Sydney brothel spending as "entertainment", "teleconferencing", or national office meeting expenses.

The documents also reveal money was spent at expensive restaurants including Rockpool, Mecca, Langton's, Ecco, Sarti and Il Solito Posto.

The court documents show the union also paid for Thomson to dine at The Lazy Lobster and La Dolce Vita.

Mr Curtin also told the Melbourne Magistrates Court the credit card records showed cash withdrawals of more than $3,000 between 2005 and 2007[/url]

Nah, if you read the link George (assuming it to be correct and accurate) Thomson is no longer saying...."Nah, not me," ..... and he is holding ground on a single point which is..............where is the proof beyond reasonable doubt that he was not entitled to use the card as is alleged by the Prosecution for as many roots as he wanted etc.

Well, that's what I glean.
