just suddenly of course since the 7th

Probably all my adult life. I remember I protested about the hanging of Ronald Ryan and ?????? (the last people to be hung in Australia) when I was quite young.

I started seriously taking a stand against human rights abuses when Howard was PM, then all through the Labor years ( they had an abhorrent stance towards human rights) up until the present time.

We only have very minor political parties representing left wing values in Australia at the moment.

I am against the Abbott led coalition but that doesn't mean I am for the opposition, the right wing opposition, who are not really opposed at all. What opposition? After all Abbott is using Rudd's offshore asylum seeker policy....same same.

These days people are voting more on personalities than policies.

you forget the web... and they are very vocal...

and not always truthful....

lol. makes me laugh when you lefties swanna gived lrudd kudos for the boats stopping but none of the kudos for the mess and the debt... hilarious.

you dont mind me  being sceptical do you?.. its your own fault.

I have no doubt you have done your bit pansi...none at all.. but you are so much against any right leaning govt...you cannot have a bet each way...because thats not how you come across..sometimes its hard to see any difference between you and kat...his resentment and bitterness  is so bad I am surprised he isnt in a mad house.. and I am shocked at some of your comments..cant be bothered to bring any to mind...

but believe me it isnt always about human rights...a lot is about the Abbott govt which has only been in 5 m onths.... and has hardly been in parliament..to make a difference..if you think like most lefties we could go on indefinitely like we were going with labor.. then all I can say is...........................................?

what crap what about Corbys human rights... and the Bali 3 who are on death row..... what about Van Nguyens human rights in Singapore..

dont recall you getting all upset about them?

Agreed.  I wrote to the Singapore President over the hanging of that Australian citizen for drugs, and also wrote to Indo over Corby, and I am against death penalties totally anyway - let alone massive sentences for drugs which are readily available there anyway.

All this stuff is just ploys to keep the twits here on the back foot and kow-towing to the mighty Asian with a chip on the shoulder after years of colonial rule.

Any time they want to put pressure on they grab a citizen or two and make our fools look bad trying to stand tall while cowering down and unable to do anything.  Wouldn't be surprised to see a rise in 'drug runners' arrests in Bali following the territorial waters incursions....

Might have to segue that incident into one of my books and story lines....

anyway there they are in full regalia...

and the left are impressed.. already waving their white flag..

Great point - their Navy was conspicuously absent when boats were sinking and Australia had aircraft in the air and ships on the high seas at great cost to try to intercept - for whatever reason.

They have far more Naval ships/boats than we do - yet they did nothing and do nothing now, except whine when OUR ships cross their boundaries to do THEIR job.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_Indonesian_Navy_ships

As part of my refugee studies I looked into the SIEV-X (Suspected Illegal Entry Vessel - Unknown) episode and had a good look at the tragedy of Australian patrol aircraft and ships missing a sinking boat due to avoiding the storm it was in - less than 100 miles from the Indo coast.

The Indos have an obligation under the law of the sea to come to the aid of those in distress as well - not just say :-

"Adios, muchachos - we don't want you refos here anyway!"

THAT's what the UN should be looking at.

Some 'investigation'.
The Navy aren't about to hand over their sailors for this 'investigation' as if any personnel are going to be identified, so it's going to be a one sided 'investigation' at best.
The UNHCR would be better off spending their time 'investigating' the 1000+ deaths at sea that occurred over the last six years from leaky Indonesian vessels rather than a country shoppers burnt pinky.
Back to the latte cafe UNHCR.

Maybe not, but the Australian people might be interested if they find that the asylum seekers claims are correct. It will certainly be a further slur against our government and defense forces.

Not everyone wants to see asylum seekers mistreated.

Our government and its agencies should not be above scrutiny.....ever.

I'm about to head out today to deal with these f------s.

and then, lo and behold, we find a group of "these f------" with burn marks and claims of abuse.

yes, the navy is squeaky clean and should absolutely always be believed at face value, and no sort of inquiry is ever needed.  Tongue Tongue

Rememebr the navy isn't manned by mussies, just because they don't like wasting their time chasing down country shoppers, doesn't mean they torure them for fun. That's what the nut bags un the ME do.

It shouldn't be the navy's job to pick up reffos looking to jump on the dole here in Aus, maybe the lefties might want to volunteer their time and do it properly. It would require more effort than complaining about everyone else; so there is that problem.

Accusations have been made against our armed forces and should be investigated as any allegations of wrong doing must be.....The law is not allowed to discriminate and applies to everyone.....I am pleased the Abbott Government will co-operate with the enquiry as it should but I fear they have already put a caveat on the limits of their intention to provide evidence!!!

Quote:
The Federal Government has said it is willing to provide any documents and videos it has in order to refute the accusations.

The Navy is not above abuse mate!!!

http://www.scmp.com/news/world/article/1351235/australian-navy-investigates-sex-...

Quote:
Australian navy investigates sex abuse rituals aboard ship

The military has been under pressure to address abuse after a Skype scandal in 2011 in which video of a male recruit having sex with a female classmate was streamed to cadets in another room without her knowledge.

An independent report subsequently detailed 24 allegations of rape within the defence force that never went to trial, among more than 1,000 claims of sexual or other abuse from the 1950s to the present day, involving both men and women.

The report also highlighted brutal initiation ceremonies and depicted a culture of covering up and hostility towards victims who complained.
