The piece of crap that married and had sex with that little girl is out on bail. It was on the news. Unbelievable. This country is going down the drain.

The judicial process has a process called bail.Maybe look it up.

Just because your on bail doesn't mean its over.
Like sticking up for peodos do we.

Love it. Interestingly, the girl's father was not initially granted bail.

How was her father a peodo?

I personally believe that people shouldn't be walking around in public when involved in awful crimes. He's a risk of hopping a flight also.

Y, the "epidemic" reported by the Telegraph is defacto marriages throughout NSW. It's not Muslim child marriages. If they were Muslims, this would be listed on their census forms.

The census figures are about young girls in relationships with older men, and it's hardly an epidemic. It's a few hundred.

The only other source is Eman Sharobeem from the Immigrant Women’s Health Service. The overseas underage marriages she describes is girls "of different religions".

Feel free to address the facts, Y, or have the usual meltdown. It's up to you.

Totally unsubstantiated, shameless deflection.

And just a point of clarification. When I wrote:

What I am not "shuffling my paperwork" over is that I do not, never have, and never will condone child marriage.

I should have added and that is the only thing that is relevant to this discussion

The only evidence we have seen on "what muslims think" about this issue is that they are appalled by it and want it stopped. Pulling them up and saying "oh but hang on, this goes against the teachings of islam" is a complete red herring *IF* there is no evidence that muslims are actually condoning and justifying it on this basis - which there isn't.

Where is the evidence in the Koran OR the Hadith [which are the foundation texts for all ISLAMIC law], for these claims ?

Those claims by moslem community leaders, here in Australia, are BLATANT, SHAMELESS, LIES.

Islamic law doesn't apply in Australia, but you're missing the point. Islamic law is interprative, not a list of proscriptions.

There is nothing in the Bible to state the underage marriage goes against Christianity either, but I bet that if you asked a few church leaders they would tell you that it does, based on the essence of the teachings.

How can you have a problem with Muslims doing the same?

Unsubstantiated? It's in the article you're quoting. Feel free to read it, Y.

There is no substantiated epidemic whatsoever. We have one Women's Health worker talking about girls "of different religions" being sent overseas to marry.

That's the evidence - one testimony. In a court, this would be overruled as hearsay.

Probably wasn't in the Bible, given EVERYBODY married young prior to the 20th century.

I certainly believe it's up to Australian Muslim leaders to "out" the rogue elements amongst their communities. It paints their religion in a bad way. Many Australians are starting to wonder how these instances are flying under their radar. Or are they turning a blind eye? Or do the Australian Muslim leaders have little idea about what is going down in their communities???

Sparky, the majority of defacto relationships involving underage girls are non-Muslim. This phenomenon would not even be reported if there wasn't a Muslim element to the story.

And yes, many ARE reported and investigated. If girls refuse to make a statement, the investigation goes nowhere.

In NSW, this job is done by the police/Community Services Joint Investigative Response Team, or JIRT. Their job is to investigate and substantiate the sexual abuse of minors.

Nine times out of ten, underage girls in sexual relationships refuse to make a statement. I'm surprised that the girl investigated in the Sydney case has reported 26 cases of sexual penetration.

Because of this, this case is extremely rare.

I'll take your word for it but this instance is associated with a mosque, an imam and a congregation which is rather alarming. Islam is probably being zeroed in on but it's got to stop making the news. If that was a Christian church in question it would be on here too.
