Contrary to what cliff posted, bumping does work, for this particular problem. Another key symptom is that after you make a post, you get automatically redirected to a post above yours. Your post number does not match the number on the end of the URL. This happens after every post, not just the ones that span a page.
FD, I refer you to http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1391633272/435
where Herbert made 7 'bump' posts over 1 or 2 minutes for no result, but a post by someone else just 7 minutes later resolved the problem.
Similarly, http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1391633272/450
where Aussie made 7 'bump posts over 2 minutes for no result and the problem was resolved by a post just 12 minutes later.
I'm not suggesting that 'bumping' doesn't work, but its apparent that rapid-fire bumps aren't a solution either. All they achieve is filling a page with non-posts.
I have noticed in the past that often the problem will clear itself after a small amount of time.
I would suggest that if bumping is to be encouraged it should be restricted to, say, 1 bump every 10=15 minutes or so.
For some reason Aussie appears to have taken my comments on this situation as a personal attack. No attack was intended, I was simply stating my 2 penny's worth.
If you are happy to have the forum littered with countless bumps and grinds - its your choice and I am sorry I even mentioned it.

I disagree. YABB's own documentation states that it uses a FLAT FILE DATABASE,
Thanks for your advice cliff.
The problem will not "clear itself" after some time. Flat file "databases" do not take time to resolve things the way regular databases do. It is just a heap of files in a folder. The problem will only resolve itself after the correct number of bumps, or posts. You can tell how many are needed by the difference between your post number and the URL number you get redirected to.
