Sadly the Greens shot themselves in the foot when along with the Libs they voted down the ETS.
There is still no viable alternative when it comes to left of centre progressives but if there was the Greens would sink without a trace.
By voting down the ETS they gave Abbott a platform on which to launch his grab for power so they are pretty much to blame for where we are now with a far right wing nutjob for PM.

It's not the Greens fault labor tried to con the public with a fixed couple of dollars a tonne price for ever ETS on pollution and wanting to lock it is so it would cost billions of tax money to repair it.

It is not Greens fault labor really doesn't believe in AGW and so half heartily went in to selling a market mechanism. Then didn't fight even when Abbott started the lie that it's a tax when it's a levy.

If anything, the current environment suits the Greens because even if Abbott removes the market mechanism and then erects the dud direct action, when Greens push carbon pricing at future elections, the conservatives will not be able to spoil and labor will not be able to drive the climate support onto the rocks.

Then we will get a real and deep change of the economy towards sustainability.
