yes, but under Rudd the asylum seekers weren't left to be beaten by the natives ...

it's only After Abbott got in that management of the facility went downhill

And of course it was Abbotts excellent campaign of fear and hatred which eventually forced Labor into the gutter with Abbott.

So what's the happiest ending to this story?

The criminal Indonesian Muslim leadership in Jakarta finally refuses to allow any more of these 'asylum-seekers' to disembark at their airports.

It's as simple as that.

Without the criminal cooperation of Indonesia's Muslim leadership ~ none of this would be happening.

Not the drownings. Not 'Christmas Island'. Not Manus Island and its riots. etc etc.

Without the criminally incompetent and xenophobic Australian Liberal Party, don't you mean?

Are you the exact opposite of a xenophobe kat?

Would the exact opposite of a xenophobe be someone who promiscuously embraces foreign cultures while snobbishly rejecting their own home grown culture?

Was it Rudd and the greens who were in power when Manus Island was reopened?
Quote:
PM Kevin Dudd says asylum seekers who arrive by boat will have no chance of being settled in Australia as refugees.

Mr Dudd says the new arrangement delivers a message to people smugglers their business model is undermined.

The package includes a significant expansion of Manus Island detention centre to house 3000 people up from the original capacity of 600
Leftist source-www.abc.net.au/news/2013-07-19/manus-island-detention-centre-to-be-expanded-unde...

Labor and the Greens not only reopened Manus Island they expanded the capacity of it to well above Howard's level.

The greens and labor are filthy hypocrites and liars!

No.

Labor climbed down into the gutter with Abbott and now we are seeing the consequences...the moral of the story is "never follow the devil down a hole."

AH, SO Rudd was not the leader of Labor, only a mere puppet with Abbott's hand up his arse all long?

Does Abbott manipulate Shorten to be wet sop to the union spivs and thugs?  Makes sense - the evil geniuses we know as Liberal PMs - Howard and Abbot. Dreadful idiots AND evil clever masterminds at the same time.
No contradiction it too enormous for lefty progs as long as they can snarl.

Yes, close Manus Island now, send them ALL home (or back to Indonesia or their starting point) and let them apply for refugee status with their documents in hand.

One death isn't enough for you guys?

More than 1,000 deaths under Labor obviously weren't enough for you Greenies to do something about it while wedded to Gillard...

And that is one huge sh1t sandwich the Greens and Labor leftards are gonna be chewing on for ever - geez it must suck when your whole team has had its head shoved down the toilet repeatedly - oh how the haters are hating now  Grin

Neither Labor nor the Greens are responsible for these deaths. Nor will their supporters accept
or acknowledge any culpability, as there is none.

If anyone is responsible, it's the Indonesians, for allowing them to depart in unseaworthy ships
and the Libs for refusing to accept that they are refugees, not terrorists after our Centrelink
benefits.

If what you say is true, then if a boat carrying 100 illegal immigrants sinks at sea tomorrow it will definitely not be Abbott's fault.

Actually, the truth is that this incident only happened because the detainees are beginning to see that the new government isn't going to bend over and take it up the ass like Rudd & Gillard did for six long years. The detainees now genuinely fear that the risks they took and the effort they put into trying to come here will now likely all be for nothing. This didn't happen when Rudd & Gillard were in office because the detainees and people smugglers knew they could walk right over Rudd & Gillard.

Once again we play the Blame Game.

In the meantime, innocent people are badly injured and at least one is dead.

Anus Island should be closed and all existing refugees processed in Australia.

If they are to be deported, and haven't a passport, issue them another one.

Simple, really. Just like some of the posters here.

Labor tried onshore processing. The result: the trickle turned into a flood of more than 700 boats, over 50,000 people arriving and conservative estimates put the death toll at sea at atleast 1,000 - all under Labor. Labor tried onshore processing and sure enough (as Abbott predicted) it was an utterly abysmal failure.

Ah, but that's where you're wrong: according to the right-wing redneck racist bigots in this forum, brown people aren't "innocent" at all.

I can see two RCs Labor could start in 2016: naval incursions into Indo waters & how the Manus Is ASs were treated etc.

Emotionally incontinent tantrum because you cannot present an intelligent argument.

You lefty loonies regard coherent thinking and argument as tools of economic and racial oppression. So you spray the hyperbolic shite like graffiti because that's all you can do.

Er... you cannot issue Australian passports to foreigners. And Australia cannot issue non-Australian passports.

None as simple as you, practically single-cell.

Iranian-Australian freelance interpreter Azita Bokan was contracted to work on Manus Island for the Department of Immigration last week.

She was on Manus Island during the violent clashes on both nights.

Ms Bokan claims she was dismissed on Sunday after trying to intervene in a scuffle between detainees and G4S staff.

On Monday night she stood on the roof of the staff housing facility several hundred metres away from the compound and watched the unrest.

She has described seeing detainees with horrific injuries after a deadly clash involving large rocks and machetes.

“I haven’t had sleep in three nights. I’m so all over the place, myself. I’ve seen too much and I keep having flashbacks,” she told the ABC.

“The injuries were horrendous. It was blood everywhere. Throats were cut. It was heads crushed by the rocks.”

Ms Bokan claims she saw uniformed G4S guards jump over the fence towards detainees, but could not see who was wielding the rocks and knives because it was too dark and she was too far away.

“Everyone was running everywhere saying, ‘help us’, shouting, yelling, lots of yelling was happening, and the people say, ‘they’re killing us, they’re killing us’,” she said.

Ms Bokan says the violence she saw is like nothing she has ever witnessed.

“What is in Australia, it does not apply there. I was in Darwin, I was in other detention centres. Nothing compares to what you see in Manus Island,” she said.

Ms Bokan says she saw detainees trying to defend themselves by holding up plastic chairs.

“I never would’ve thought under Australia’s name we do anything like that. I still keep Australia highly up. I do not believe Australians are about this. We do not accept this in our names.”

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison says he has had no verification of anything of the nature described by Ms Bokan.

“Those investigations and the collection of that information is under way, and I would caution against such speculation until these matters can be properly confirmed,” he told the ABC.

“I imagine there will be all sorts of interviews undertaken from people who were there and the various other authorities and that goes well beyond the perimeter fence.

“It goes to establishing the facts of what occurred that night. I think this is going to be a very difficult process.”

.

They don't have to be Australian passports, dummy.

For example, if I decided to return to NZ, unlikely but who knows, it would be possible to renew my Kiwi passport while still in Australia.
