I had a bit of a look around & couldn't quickly pick up another Gay Marriage" thread, so would you waste you time, going thru lots of past pages OR would you just start another thread?

That's a good point to raise perceptions. There are threads that I started eons ago and would have liked to refresh, eg on China, but there is just no way to find them that works efficiently.
So, as you say, you start another thread and lose continuity . . .unless like yourself you have one large thread that rolls on & on.

But, I looked at the "somewhat recent posts" and I couldn't see any.

So, your thought was incorrect.

That said, if there are already other threads about, then it would seem reasonable to use that, if it is fairly similar.

As for the rest of your last post, it doesn't seem relevant.
