Scott hadn't started the rioting in Manus Island - Not being Superman, he wasn't there and had to depend on those information of others who (no doubt) weren't there either.

Good sense would dictate that the staff at the detention centre wouldn't have started anything and if only one was killed, the agitators should count their blessings.

During years of Labor, thousands had drowned at sea and not even Sara (mis-justice) Hanson Young wept a tear for the many children who'd been fed to sharks under LABOR'S WATCH.

Shut up, the wise one!

I don't know what the problem was there, But your comment has now made it, to where you wanted it to go!

I dont think he lied.  He made a statement based on the information he had, then when more information became avaliable he released another statement.

Its called releasing facts as they become known.  Some people need to get a grip.

The person that was killed in the riots was in detention under control of the Australia Government. The government had duty of care to make sure he wasn't hurt, killed, same as you are in society

Any one that drown were they under the care of the government. Did anyone representing the government boarded the boat before they drown

Now put yourself in Asylum Seekers shoes and you want to flee your country because you can get kill for just walking down the street, or daughters could get raped and get stone to death for reporting it, or daughters can't get a education, you and your daughters are treated as second class citizens.

Now what would do would you stop there with your family or would you want to leave anyway you can with your family.

(A) No one forced him onto the boat, and

(B) The government did not start the riot, detainees did.

The government has a duty of care.  The problem is when that duty of care becomes compromised due to the actions of those they are required to protect.

Rights and responsibility.  It cuts both ways.

(A) No one forced them into the roof cavities or to use metal staples

(B) The Government did not cause the deaths, the Business owners did.

Why must he quit?  Because he made a statement last week based on information supplied to him that at that time wasnt correct.  A matter which he has since corrected?

Or are you hoping that if he quits its easier for people to mount a case to dismantle the current arrangements?

The current arrangements that completely disregard our obligations you mean? Sure, I want them dismantled.  They are against the refugee convention (despite what one might think of it) that we have signed up to, and if any other country had the balls, they'd take us to international courts and win.

But I don't want him to quit because I disagree with the policies of ALL parties in their entirety. And I doubt him quitting will change much with regard to government policy. No, I want him to quit because he remarks last week re: Indian who committed suicide, and his quick attempts to lay blame in this case, show him to be a sociopath.  No one needs a sociopath in such a contentious area.  Let him look after the ministry for... tea leaves. But don't let him anywhere near a portfolio that involves human life.

And you know very well that the buck stops with him. Prior to giving us the LIMITED INFORMATION he does, he needs to  make sure it is accurate and adequate.  Witnesses the very next day contradicted his initial statements. That tells me he didn't really care what information he was providing, as long as it instigated the typical "Oh but they rioted it's their fault" debate.

Who said I'm expecting him to do a back flip? I'm expecting him to quit.  I fully expect the government however to keep to its moronic, internationally illegal, policy.

And the deaths haven't ended. They continue in our detention centres on a constant basis.  Not to mention that the sadists potentially put people back into vulnerable situations, all to keep the xenophobes calm.

You do realise that the reason the boats have stopped is because refugees aren't being settled in Australia. If he does what you and those candle burners want the whole mess will start up again. This must be what you all want. You are all confusing me. I think you don't care how many people die just as long as we get refugees. It sure looks that way.

Let's just kill people instead of do what we are obligated to do , by conventions we sign up to.  Typical crazy.
