How do ants know?
Feb 26th, 2014 at 1:14pm

How is it they tell us days in advance of any forecast that there is going to be some prolonged rain?
Of course sometimes they get it wrong. It does happen that something throws them, but I venture to suggest their margin of error is way below our forecasters for all their satellites, radar and fingers in the air.

Know the enemies of a civil society by their public behaviour, by their fraudulent claim to be liberal-progressive, by their propensity to lie and, above all, by their attachment to authoritarianism.

Hello Bogarde

My feeling is that its a lot about humidity changes. THey may be able to pick up the rising humidity. They can also detect changes in pressure. I suspect then, they will often get it wrong, if the changes aren't associated with rain, or the rain comes too quickly for them to detect the changes

Forget the ants ~ just check out the snails.

If you see them up a brick wall, or colorbond fencing panel ~ then it's going to rain to flood proportions.

And the faster they move, the heavier the rain.

So, "they" should be checking out the ants, snails, spiders and their arthritic hips and knees before allowing the BOM to announce weather forecasts?

Who pays this lot to "predict" what the weather is going to be tomorrow?  Why do we pay for them to get it so wrong, so often?

Who cares anyway?  Wink

Thunderstorms predicted here from 2pm today. Still waiting.

It was predicted to be a very dry weekend and it came down in buckets.

BOM = waste of space.  Old Tom with his arthritic hip and drinking problem can predict the weather better than the BOM.  Grin

I can "feel" when rain is coming if im outside...

if it's cloudy and the mrs can't tell whether to put the washing out or not I can usually walk outside and make a prediction of whether it's close (say an hour or 2) or not until later on.. maybe in the afternoon...

My false teeth begin to chatter in the glass on my bedside table on nights before it's going to rain.
