Displaying text as a hyperlink?
Feb 28th, 2014 at 12:55pm

Can anyone show me how to format a URL with text, so that the text becomes the hyperlink? For example, if I wanted to direct the reader towards a link, I would ask them to click "here"; where the "here" is the underlying hyperlink.

I didn't know how people did that either.

Then I right clicked the 'Insert Hyperlink' button and found out   Smiley

Paste the url you want to link to, and then type the text that you want displayed.

e.g.

http://ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl Click Here

And then select the url and the text, and then click the 'Insert Hyperlink' button.

Its standard in most forums but when i did it here i was told i was "secretive" and "directing ppl to who knows where". Apparently there are dolts here that think you shouldnt do it that way.

I would not follow a link posted on a forum if I did not know where it was going, and I would advise others the same. The person who posted it could be a complete idiot who trusts any site they come across, or could have much better anti-malware installed, or could just enjoy messing with people.

You can check by right clicking on the link and choosing copy link location (will vary slightly with your browser). Then open a new tab and paste it into the URL bar. If you trust the site, hit enter.

There's nothing secretive about it.

When you hover the cursor arrow over the hyperlink, the complete url is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Freediver,

I can understand "some" people being over-protective about clicking on a link noted as "click here" by certain friends. However, if they have any nous at all they can point the mouse at the link and it will tell them exactly what it is. Not everyone is computer illiterate.

I very much doubt that anyone could complain about getting malware (or a virus) from Oz Pol. This is one of the safer sites on the Net.

The only "other" complaint seems to be from certain old codgers who expect instantaneous acknowledgement of their ponderousness. Refer above.  Wink

That's exactly the mindset that spammers rely on to get malware and viruses onto your computer.
