The Saudis and Yemeni people do the same thing
Actually no, the Saudis and Yemenis currently have no age restriction. This draft bill restricts age to 9 and over.

it cannot be a shiite thing can it?
Apparently it is:
Quote:The legislation is referred to as the Ja'afari Law, named after the sixth Shi'ite imam Ja'afar al-Sadiq, who founded his own school of jurisprudence.
also:
Quote:It must now be reviewed by parliament, but the draft could very well languish, with national elections scheduled for April 30, and vocal opposition among secularists.
This particular bill has been pushed since 2003, and repeatedly rejected. There are powerful secular opposing forces in Iraq - and no, I don't mean those two dozen women protesters - so there's a good chance that this will fail to pass through parliament - again.
