The fact that many get away with dangerous and stupid things like running red lights, screaming through on the inside of a turning vehicle and so forth, does not mean it is not inherently dangerous to do so.

BTW - are you suggesting that it is legal to pass inside a vehicle in the process of turning left in Victoria and that it is somehow a 'right' to do so?  You are kidding me!

There but for the grace of good drivers...

Door 'em all - let God  sort 'em out!

#1. No, it is NOT dangerous if done correctly. And yes, it IS legal, like it or not.

#2. The vehicle was NOT turning right, as the driver has confirmed.

#3. I'm not suggesting anything of the kind, I'm just stating what the LAW in Vict-whoria says. Shoot them, not me.

#4. That last comment should be reported. I would, but I simply can't be f@cked.

Yeah... but...... seriously.. it is getting off the issue to discuss the facilities for puche bike riders in every town.

The simple reality is that the law is way behind on those riders who do the wrong thing - and as operators of a vehicle as defined by law they should be under the same umbrella.

Have to agree with the mobility scooter thing - I saw an ancient guy doing maybe 20 kph on a footpath in town.  Man he couldn't have stopped if someone had stepped out of a shop door.

More BS from Grappler who likess to make things up randomly. Mobility scooters in Australia are limited to a top speed of 10kph.

#1. No, it is NOT dangerous if done correctly. And yes, it IS legal, like it or not.

So it IS dangerous - and only is not when those doing it are properly careful?  So - what's the argument here?

#2. The vehicle was NOT turning right, as the driver has confirmed.

You've lost me - the cab was setting down a passenger - the passenger opened the door to get out.. the bike rider hit the door.  What is this 'turning right'?

#3. I'm not suggesting anything of the kind, I'm just stating what the LAW in Vict-whoria says. Shoot them, not me.

Good.  then we are on the same page - such stupidity needs to be brought under proper control and the Law is sometimes way behind on realities.

#4. That last comment should be reported. I would, but I simply can't be f@cked.

Which one?
'Door 'em all - let God sort 'em out?'
Nah - it's time-honoured.. par for the course in say, Iran - execute 'em all, let Allah sort 'em out etc.

You don't filter up the left of a left indicating/turning vehicle, that is clearly dumb, and is in breach of the road rules in Vic.

Any other time is OK. Infact, encouraged as it gets you to the 'bike box' at the front of the lane, from where you have priority to commence on the change of lights.

Obviously, do your own risk assessment.

Well, yes. And no.

Off the topic of this particular incident, for sure.

But then, every town has cyclists, and some are better served than others.

I was in Can't-berra last week to visit the 'Gold of the Incas' exhibition at the
Art Gallery (well worth a look, BTW) and was amazed at the bike-friendly
infrastructure they have there, both in quality and in quantity. And it keeps
the cyclists off the roads (and isn't that what motorists want)?

But in Sydney, they want to hang Clover Moore for trying to do the same thing.

With the exception of a few (admittedly pretty good) cycle paths, my town paints
a 2'strip up one side of the road, and that's your bike lane (very similar to, and
no wider than, the one Summernight was in when she was doored.

Go figure? I can't.

Once more, for the idiot who turned up late...

He wasn't turning. Cyclists can legally pass on the left. It is an offence to open a car door in a manner to cause obstruction or an accident/

She broke no laws.

He did.

The Vict-whorian police agree.

And you, also, would do well to read previous comments before you put your oar in.

I see nothing more than a personal attack there. It has been reported as such.

I've personally clocked a local one at 25km/h by my bike speedo/computer.

And the bloke thinks he owns the footpath/mall/club, wherever he happens
to be. You don't move, and he WILL hit you with it.

Not arguing with what the law says, just relating personal experience.

Yeah, right. How convenient. I dont what you people get out of fabricating this nonsense. Is this a sign of some sort of inferiority complex I wonder.

Take a pill and keep your stupidity in check. Just stated the rules, making no comment on the event which occurred as I can see she/he broke no law.

Oh, and thicko, i'm a tad pro cycling...given i regularly do upwards of 450k's a week....
