#2. The vehicle was NOT turning right, as the driver has confirmed.

#3. I'm not suggesting anything of the kind, I'm just stating what the LAW in Vict-whoria says. Shoot them, not me.

Yeah... but...... seriously.. it is getting off the issue to discuss the facilities for puche bike riders in every town.

The simple reality is that the law is way behind on those riders who do the wrong thing - and as operators of a vehicle as defined by law they should be under the same umbrella.

Have to agree with the mobility scooter thing - I saw an ancient guy doing maybe 20 kph on a footpath in town. Man he couldn't have stopped if someone had stepped out of a shop door.

You don't filter up the left of a left indicating/turning vehicle, that is clearly dumb, and is in breach of the road rules in Vic.

Any other time is OK. Infact, encouraged as it gets you to the 'bike box' at the front of the lane, from where you have priority to commence on the change of lights.

Obviously, do your own risk assessment.

Well, yes. And no.

Off the topic of this particular incident, for sure.

But then, every town has cyclists, and some are better served than others.

I was in Can't-berra last week to visit the 'Gold of the Incas' exhibition at the
Art Gallery (well worth a look, BTW) and was amazed at the bike-friendly
infrastructure they have there, both in quality and in quantity. And it keeps
the cyclists off the roads (and isn't that what motorists want)?

But in Sydney, they want to hang Clover Moore for trying to do the same thing.

With the exception of a few (admittedly pretty good) cycle paths, my town paints
a 2'strip up one side of the road, and that's your bike lane (very similar to, and
no wider than, the one Summernight was in when she was doored.

Go figure? I can't.

He wasn't turning. Cyclists can legally pass on the left. It is an offence to open a car door in a manner to cause obstruction or an accident/

She broke no laws.

And the bloke thinks he owns the footpath/mall/club, wherever he happens
to be. You don't move, and he WILL hit you with it.

Not arguing with what the law says, just relating personal experience.
