I don’t think any have come into the country in a container yet, but how long before it happens?

Imagine the desperation that would drive people to go into a container, have it locked on them, processed, shipped, unloaded, perhaps put in the middle of a pile of containers and you wait in the dark, hoping your food and water don’t run out before the container is opened, living in the smell of your own waste.

Couldn’t pay me to do it!
They won't travel from Indonesia/Malaysia via container to Australia because they'd have a pretty good chance of dying. Seeing that a metal container would heat up in the sun  they'd get cooked like a Cajun catfish. This is an ABC typical beat up.

Of course the smugglers are adapting - because there is still a market. Thats the problem with OSB - it doesn't deal with the market. People don't magically stop fleeing persecution because our navy blocks boats trying to get to our shores. And while the market remains, the trade will remain - in one form or another.

Of course they are adapting, you know, they have mortgages too, and kids, and private school fees, and holiday homes to maintain, you know......economic conditions for people smugglers has hit a 10 year low, man its tough out there  Grin Grin Grin

So have any illegals entered the country by travelling inside containers to get here, or is this just another ABC article based on their bias, and which the weak minded on this forum are happy to post for want of something more substantial and real to worry about?

"Illegals" come by plane.

Overstaying a Visa is a totally different issue. Any 'illegal' who comes by plane is turned around at the airport and 'towed back' via air  Grin Grin
If they do get through customs they are on the run and can't get the dole also.

Incorrect.

Visa overstayers are illegal immigrants, or, "illegals" as some like to call them.

Asylum seekers are neither illegal, nor immigrants.

If they travel by submarine, it doesn't make them any less "illegal".

If they are asylum seekers, they are not illegal.

It is not illegal to seek asylum.

If they transgress borders, they are illegal.

If the plane option is better then why are they risking death by coming in a clapped out overcrowded boat??

No, you are incorrect.

"Illegal" what, exactly?

Are they illegal immigrants, illegal boat owners, illegal asylum seekers?

And, once you've established that vital piece of information, perhaps you could point us all to the piece of legislation that covers this "illegal" act (with reference to the relevant section, please).

Over to you ...

They don't need a passport or visa.

I thought that would have been quite obvious.

Visa overstayers are Unlawful Non-Citizens - not Illegal Immigrants as they have chosen not to apply for migration, rather they have illegally assumed it - for someone who has been banging on about this for months you should use the correct terminology.

I'm afraid old mate you'll have to stay back for detention this afternoon and write 100 times on the blackboard, "Unlawful Non-Citizens are not the same as Illegal Immigrants"...

Illegal immigrants is not the term I use.

You failed to notice that I said "as some like to call them" (some, but not me).

I know exactly what terms are the correct ones, and asylum seekers are neither "illegals" nor "illegal immigrants".

They don't need it to come in a boat and claim asylum in Australia.

What part of that don't you understand?

So we are going to keep bleeding money stopping people who want to come here.

Until former PM Rudd dismantled the Pacific Solution, the boats HAD stopped. It wouldn't be a problem if Rudd had not become PM...
