No matter how much I'd prefer it wasn't true, but Labor is not going to win the Qld election - not even a hung parliament.

If they do very, very, very well, they will come close - but still no cigar.

Have a look at Antony Greens tables.  It is not impossible, perhaps improbable....but....can you think of any reason why those who swung against the ALP in 2012 will stick with LNP in 2015 after the mess Newmann has made everywhere?

Does anyone know how much of the alleged $80B debt Newmann will pay off with the proceeds of these proposed asset sales leases?

Unless I've mis-read the figures, in the 2012 election, the ALP had a 15.6% swing against it.  Looking at the ABC's Antony Green's tables, there are 35 seats held by the LNP now with less than a 12% margin.  It will be down to the wire if there is a 12% swing back to the ALP.....but if there is a correction of the full 15.6%, then the ALP win.

I see absolutely no reason why there would not be that full 15.6% correction, so much does Newmann and the LNP stink up here.

I do not expect the ALP to win, but they will get back most of what they lost in 2012.

As for 12% to 15%, I expect we will see swings of 15% or more in some seats. Which seats if any have been bellwether seats - usually won by the party in government?

The lack of a well known public face as a leader.
Only 3 years of grumbling by the electorate - not 6 or more.
It's only 3 years since the rout of Labor in Queensland - plenty of voters who while they may not be rusted on, think that the LNP deserve a bit longer.

There's just not that level of distain for the government that there was in 2012.

Quote:
A ReachTEL poll commissioned by Seven News questioned 1635 Queenslanders on Tuesday night and found support for the LNP had grown by 2 per cent since the snap election was announced.

Of the respondents polled, 42 per cent said they would preference the LNP first, up from 40.3 per cent on January 6,  with 36.7 per cent offering their number one spot to Labor, down from 38.1 per cent when the election was called.

The Greens saw a slight increase in support, from 7.6 per cent to 8.4 per cent, with Palmer's United Party continuing its slide in the polls, dropping to 5.2 per cent from 6.3 per cent.

Two-thirds of respondents said the government would win a second term, regardless of their voting preference.

Based on how preferences flowed in 2012, the LNP lead Labor 52 per cent to 48 per cent on two-party preferred.

From the link...

But while Campbell Newman remains the preferred Premier from the LNP crop, Speaker Fiona Simpson has emerged as the public's second choice, with one in five picking the former deputy Nationals leader as their next preferred leader.

That's more than enough for me to wipe this Poll off as rogue.

I'm at the coal face, so to speak and it's certainly not what I'm seeing or hearing either. If I was the Labor candidate and I didn't win, I'd be demanding a re-count.

All how to vote cards have LNP last, Greens, Indies, PUP and Labor.

The asset sale/lease is what's killing Newman as it did with Bligh. People just want to hang onto what little we have left.

Yes, a lease is a sale when we have to buy it back in 99 years with every dollar of replacement costs over that 99 year period added to that.

Queensland election 2015: Mermaid Beach MP Ray Stevens 'aggressive and juvenile' when asked about controversial development

Quote:
Newman Government MP Ray Stevens became agitated and did "a dance" outside a polling booth after a journalist asked him about his controversial cable car development in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Premier Campbell Newman's assistant minister will be both consultant and investor on the proposed $100 million sky rail project from Mudgeeraba to Springbrook.

A similar plan was rejected by Labor 16 years ago and the project was only now possible after the Liberal National Party overturned a ban on national park commercial development.

Mr Stevens has said he had approval from the Integrity Commissioner to enter into the tourism venture.

At a pre-polling booth at Mermaid Beach on Wednesday, Mr Stevens was approached by a journalist who asked for the Commissioner's advice to be release.

Mr Stevens refused to answer.

"Please make an interview through the office and we will do it then," he said.

"I am here looking after my constituents."

Mr Stevens, who is also Leader of the House, then leapt to his feet to start handing out how-to-vote cards.

When the journalist, David Donovan from Independent Australia, did not back down and asked how much he could make from the development, Mr Stevens then began to wave his hands and arms up and down in the journalist's face.

Donovan said it was aggressive and juvenile behaviour.

"That Mermaid Ray really lost the plot, but without saying a word," Donovan said.

"He started doing a dance and gyrating around — this is a Minister of the Crown, we're talking about, let me remind you."

Premier Campbell Newman laughed off Mr Stevens' behaviour.

"It's pretty funny, I've got to say," he said.

"And a bit odd, and perhaps a lot of people out there will find the video amusing."

what is it with these gold coast libs ... a few weeks ago it turned out one refused to pay tolls or the fines that came with it, and now this knob gets all uppity when questioned about his proposal ... do they think they are untouchable?

If this politician is abusing his position for personal gain, that is corruption as bad as what Obeid and Macdonald did in NSW.

No wonder he's not willing to talk about it.

The majority of regional Queenslanders believe the state's economy has taken a turn for the worse in the past year, according to the latest results from Vote Compass

So....Newmann is suing Jones for defamation and the Libs are picking up the bill.  Why?  If Newmann was defamed, it was as a direct consequence of doing, or not doing, his job as Premier.  So, why aren't the taxpayers paying.

And.....why is Clive offering to help Jones pay his legal bill?  Surely, Jones' employer Fairfax Media have insurance for this sort of thing, but even if not, Jones has plenty of his own cash.  But, it is Clive's  money to do with as he pleases.  I reckon Clive sees votes in it, or some possible tactical advantage which might come his way to assist in his defamation action against Newmann and Seeney.
