BOTR—juvenile romanticism. There will be no revolution in Australia. There wasn’t even one in Greece.

Not a real revolution George, a people's revolution. Like this:

"A civil uprising popularly known as the Kitchenware Revolution brought down the Icelandic government after the collapse of the country's financial system in October 2008."

or

"2011–12 Spanish protests"

It wasn't the people that brought on the GFC and they've had enough of paying for it. The people of Greece said no more austerity, the people of other countries that have been affected by the GFC will do the same.

The people v the oligarchy......call it what you want.

We will do it at the next federal election.....no more squeezing the bottom rung of society, redistribute the wealth and the debt will be paid with less suffering to the minions. The money is there, it's just a matter of getting it from the right people/corporations.

you are beyond belief.

The people of Greece will do exactly what Angela Merkel of Germany tells them to do.

Rubbish. They voted out a government that Merkel desperately wanted to keep in place.

Quote:
She OWNS them because, like you and your big spending ilk, they got themselves into debt.

Greece got themselves into difficulty because the previous government - dominated by the centre-right New Democracy party for years - did nothing to address tax evasion and corruption for years. If the new left-wing government starts cracking down on tax evasion and corruption, they would have no difficulty raising the funds to service the debt - WITHOUT austerity. Extorting coins from the poor will raise far less money than making wealthy Greeks pay the taxes they owe.

Quote:
And Angela Merkel and the german government aint got nothing on what the Peoples Republic of China are gunna do to your sorry ass when they come a knocking for the repayments.

That is just unfounded debt alarmism that grossly exaggerates Australia's debt position without any evidence. Australia's debt to GDP ratio is less than a tenth of that of Greece or Japan, and what little government debt we have can be serviced. Australia's AAA ratings from three major credit rating agencies is proof of that.

Re nurses—hospitals only hire foreign nurses on 457 visas! This is the sort of crap the shambles has instituted in under 18months! Nothing good, nothing positive.

Swag keeps whinging about the load the retiring boomers are going to place, using grossly exaggerated figures from the IPA no doubt. The NBN could, still can under a decent govt of either persuasion, reduce these costs via eHealth and telehealth over FTTH. No hundreds new hospitals and nursing homes.

WHY, for what possible reason, was a sensible plan like ubiquitous FTTH, replacing the rotting copper and HFC, put aside for something like the horrific muddle that is the MTM? Doesn’t make sense on any level! Doesn’t save money, gives hardly any improvement and does not fix the state of the copper.

Makes Telstra richer—that really an aim any govt should have?

LNP sells assets because that is the neocon belief.

Please don’t throw the blame onto the ordinary people of Australia. It is the LNP and its spivs and shonk hangers on are responsible for asset sales. All these damn asset sales mean the govt has a lot less revenue! the Howard privatisation of Telstra was the height of stupidity, but the Rodent wanted more money to hand out as pork!

Good propaganda, Comrade. Just don't tell anyone that Keating privatised Aerospace Technologies of Australia, Australian Industry Development Corporation, AUSSAT,  Australian Airlines, Commonwealth Serum Laboratories, the Commonwealth Bank, Moomba-Sydney Pipeline, Qantas and the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation. Let's also not mention that under Bligh Queensland Motorways Limited (Operating the Gateway Bridge and Logan Motorway tolling systems), the Port of Brisbane Authority, Forestry Plantations Queensland, Abbot Point Coal Terminal, and Coal-carrying rail lines were privatised. This is progress.

Awesomely stated!

Back in my Uni days, Keating was referred to as The Father of Economic Rationalism in Australia... for obviously very good reasons.

Oh yes, Keating and Hawke worked for the business elite in this country, there is no doubt about that.  It was a betrayal of the most treacherous kind and we are paying the price now. All those wonderful government enterprises built with the taxes of working men and women over the decades and now the profits for that investment go into private hands and often foreign private hands. Or in the case of the Victorian electricity grid, into the hands of the government, the Singapore government that is.  Singapore loves its. They think its been a wonderful investment returning heaps into their government coffers every year. And lets face it. The more revenue the singapore government gets from the Victorian electricity grid the less tax they have to charge their people.  What a deal!!!!!!

Point is, aqua, the pain is NOT being shared out equally. That is both why the debt is growing and why Abbott is so despised—an obvious attack on the less welloff with zero real pain for those on high income.

2% temporary levy, well choreographed so those that would be effected can take out more super or whatever to not have to pay it versus PERMANENTLY throwing young unemployed people off any support? And you wonder why monkey is unpopular?
And also that many of their measures are ideological and not really directed to addressing the budget bottom line. The $8 medicare co-payment is a prime example. The money from this proposal will not go to paying off the debt but to setting up a medical research fund (corporate welfare for the pharmaceuticals). Its clearly ideological as are the education proposals designed to destroy universal access to education.  Time these bastards were kicked off the public purse.  We cant continue paying for representatives whose mission in life is to cheat us at every turn for their mates.

Very well put ,  and kudos to St G o t F as well..!!

and? does that make it ok for the libs to just keep selling? Two points you fail to notice

1. The public objects to selling of essential services which ends up driving up the cost of living. No one gives a crap about Aerospace technologies or coal carrying rail lines.

2. Both parties have tried selling assets, it hasn't worked. Time to find another way

Good propaganda, Comrade. Yet, George's claim was that "[i]t is the LNP and its spivs and shonk hangers on are responsible for asset sales." I am merely helping out a fellow comrade to make better propaganda. Perhaps you can help too by making your real estate company a public asset - you know, share your wealth and all that.

Queensland!  State of Disrepair!  A 100% partner in the future of Australia!

.... or is it a symptom of the death of this country that once was home to giants and legends like my grandfathers and grandmothers?..... one grandfather had a four digit number in the AIF (under 3000).. the other rose to the top of his profession..... through hard work.... my father fought at Milne Bay and over the Owen Stanleys.... my history you need not know in its shadowed existence beneath such giants......when will my country wake up again and divest itself of thieves and liars?

you know what annoys me most..?
They weren't all tossed..
Why?  because by holding their seats the remaining LNP members will continue to lie and lie and continue to try to undermine good governance and the process of Law, here in Queensland.
They shouldn't be allowed to say another f'n word..  I am so sick of the spin on every f'n thing.
Get my drift.?.

hey PMT 2 ..  get over it. You'r a loser.  Facts are facts Jack. Grin

So OK the people around the Mary River were badly impacted.  At the time WATER was a major concern here in SEQ.  SO.. we got some rainy yrs.. and Wyaralong Dam went ahead.  It wasn't expected to be filled in years.

BUT, before it was even officially completed, we got BULK RAIN.  IT WAS FULL.    Do you remember?.
Personally I think that is the only reason Logan City wasn't as badly affected byt the flood yrs as was the rest of the greater Sth East, In the nick of time so to speak.

You suggest the measures were unnecessary,  in HINDSIGHT.  Well that 's easy enough,  but not cogent to the matter here and now.
