Queensland election 2015: Labor to form minority government as all seats declared

Quote:
All seats in the Queensland election have been declared, with Labor securing enough to form a minority government.

The Electoral Commission of Queensland declared the 89 seats which make up Queensland Parliament at 2:15pm (AEST).

Labor leader Annastacia Palaszczuk could be sworn in as Queensland's premier as early as today.

Although the writs were due to be returned on Monday, Governor Paul de Jersey said earlier this week he would commission a new premier when all seats were declared.

Labor won 44 electorates and will have the crucial 45 to form a minority government with the support of independent Peter Wellington.

The Liberal National Party (LNP) finished with 42 seats, and its only hope of forming a minority government would be to win the backing of the two Katter's Australian Party MPs and victory in a Ferny Grove by-election, if one is held.

All in all, a good result ... I would have preferred they were able to govern without Wellington, but given how unlikely they were to get this far, well done.

First order of business for Palaszczuk should be to reinstate the CMC's full powers, followed by a royal commission into the dodgy dealings of Newman ...

ohh, she should also ditch that loser that Newman put in charge of the courts.

Restoring the CMC's powers should be done.

Palaszczuk should also restore the separation of powers. The Attorney-General should have no say in which cases go before the courts. That should be the sole prerogative of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Newman's appointments to the public service should all be sacked. That should include the Chief Justice, who should be replaced with one of the current judges with the most experience.

Start with these, and other similar moves to restore good government to Queensland, and Palaszczuk should have nothing to fear even if there's a byelection in Ferny Grove.

Easier said than done.  It'll cost, but they'll just have to sideline him somehow.  Create some other  totally new more senior position and fill it with a properly qualified and respected legal elder.  Transfer all powers and responsibilities of the Chief Justice to that person.  Then go to Carmody and tell him he is mothballed, and while he is still "Chief Justice" he has nothing to do.  He has no Office, no desk, no chair even to sit on.  No cases to hear whatsoever.  Or, the alternative offer would be.....resign from the position and be returned to his old job as a pissant Magistrate.

Aaaah!!!!  Contrary to earlier reports, the Qld Electoral Commission will not refer the Ferny Grove (taken by Labor from the LNP....in which the PUP candidate was ineligible) situation to the Supreme Court.  Smart decision, given precedent.  However, that does not prevent the LNP taking it to Court, but if they lose (as precedent says they will) they pay the costs.

All over............except for the possibility of a missing heart beat among 45 people for the next three years.

"Goodbye Campbel Newman, goodbye."  Clive sends his very best wishes to you and your arrogant 'born to rule' mentality drop kick mates.

Well, I think it needs to be said one more time given the monumental feat it was.

What a disaster it was for the Liberal National parties all over the country and especially for the Federal Abbott Government. Abbott is a gonner and I think he's the only one in the country who doesn't know it yet.

This is the Bruce McIver LNP horseshit we have been putting up with in Queensland.  This bloke has an inordinate clout within the non-parliamentary LNP and is also part of the 'arrogance' which was a factor in bringing Newmann and his lot down.

Link

Quote:
"So where would those votes have gone if he wasn't allowed to stand, that's the question.

"I think in fairness to the people of Queensland and Ferny Grove, a by-election could have to come.

"I understand law advice is forthcoming ... but I think a by-election would be the most likely outcome."

The ECQ has issued a statement saying a by-election was an option, but counting would continue until more legal advice was sought.

"Options open to the commission include a challenge in the Court of Disputed Returns of the Ferny Grove election which may result in a by-election for the district," Commissioner Walter van der Merwe said.

"At this time the commission continues to count ballots across the state with declarations for some districts to be made by the end of the week."

Yer an idiot McIver, and given the ECQ has now made it clear it will not refer the outcome in Ferny Grove to the Courts, let's see you do it using LNP funds.  You will be laughed out of Court.

By-election 'most likely?'  You winker!.

Probably just wishful thinking on the part of the LNP.

True....but why convert that in to public humiliation?  Did he think he could bluff the Electoral Commission and its advisors with political rhetorical clap trap?

The LNP haven't learnt yet why they lost the election.

They were even wanting to retain caretaker government until a hypothetical by-election was completed. Seriously?

Only conservative supporters are allowed to use that slogan, like the rusted on's in WA.
