We all know that Illegal immigrants can't get any government benefits be it centrelink benefits, medicare benefits, tax file numbers.

So how does this work that I have highlighted?

Illegal immigrant dole bludging country shoppers is the correct terminology for those who are not handwringing limp wristed bedwetters.

The majority believe in calling a spade a spade.

Also if they do get centrelink benefits how do they prove who they are without and ID? How do they get a bank account to get their benefits paid into without papers?

Asylum seekers are cared for in detention...  provided housing, food medical etc.  They are also allowed a DHS benefit.  Those in community detention are also provided much.
Refugees are provided Newstart and rental assistance without a waiting period
.  Just for starters.

that should all change

Is this another 'Grendel fact'? or is it a real fact?

All my facts are facts in the real world johnboy as opposed to yours.
I have friends in immigration remember  Grin Grin Grin
Perhaps you could develop some...  friends, Johnboy.

Morrison is broadly right. His reference to “nine out of 10 people” found to be refugees after arriving by boat is accurate. And he is correct that that 80% of primary decisions are being overturned on appeal.

As for whether Australia’s refugee acceptance rates are high compared with other nations, the only way to make meaningful international comparisons is by looking at all asylum seeker applications, not just those from people arriving by boat. When this is done, and to the extent that international comparisons are meaningful, Australia’s acceptance rate appears to be relatively high.
This means Morrison’s comment that Australia’s acceptance rate “doesn’t match what we are seeing in other places around the world” is a reasonable assessment.

Besides Grendel ... even the article you put up says that the figure includes those that arrive by plane. Are you suddenly declaring a war on asylum seekers arriving by plane?

Lots of proof there Johnboy...  try not to choke on it eh.  Grin

Quote:
Rejected boatpeople sail through tribunal
JARED OWENS THE AUSTRALIAN  MARCH 18, 2013

THREE-quarters of boatpeople who appeal their failed asylum claims to the Refugee Review Tribunal are rewarded with permanent residency in Australia.

As the Opposition affirmed a pledge to prevent maritime arrivals detained in Australia from seeking independent review of their cases, figures obtained exclusively by The Australian indicate the tribunal has overturned 503 departmental decisions to refuse refugee visas to boatpeople from a total of 676 cases heard since July last year.

Those refugees will join more than 3200 other boat arrivals whose negative refugee assessments have been overturned on appeal since Labor introduced an independent review system in 2008.

Opposition immigration spokesman Scott Morrison said the figures made "a mockery of the initial assessment of asylum claims" by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

"These latest figures have confirmed that under Labor's appeals process a 'no' almost always turns into a 'yes' and the prize of permanent residence for people who arrive illegally by boat," he said. "Even if they get a no they can just keep appealing."

Immigration Minister Brendan O'Connor declined to comment on the figures.

Quote:
More than 82 per cent of the 2698 cases that went to an IMR last financial year were overturned, following 83 per cent of 1119 cases the previous year.

The 676 irregular maritime arrivals who appealed to the RRT last year included 334 Afghans, 128 Sri Lankans, 94 Pakistanis, 74 Iranians and 37 Iraqis.

Afghans enjoyed an 87 per cent success rate on appeal, followed by Pakistanis on 82 per cent.

Among the least successful were Sri Lankans, on 46 per cent, and Iranians, 62 per cent.

The RRT was established in 1993, and many of its members are experienced in law or public administration, or have experience on other quasi-judicial bodies.
This one's for BAM...

Surprisingly, the Department of Immigration does not aggregate the figures for boat and plane arrivals

now who's the idiot?

Interviews conducted on Australian shores with Sri Lankan asylum seekers in 2012 confirmed that most had left for economic reasons, disqualifying them from protection under international conventions.

There is a doco on youtube in which sri lankan "asylum seekers" admit they are coming here for employment.  They think we have lots of employment opportunities for them and lots of money to pay them.

Don't have time to look for it again...  one of you LW patsies can look for it.  Educate yourselves.

I would say that there are some asylum seekers who are coming to Australia as economic migrants.....That is why their claims are assessed and those who are not valid refugees are sent home.....What is wrong with this process that has been happening in Australia for many decades???

Huh Huh Huh

Then you are unaware that many have had their initial assessments overturned then?  As much as 80%.

You're looking at the wrong figures.

The 'Finally Determined Grant Rate' is what counts.
