Ive done a lot of army reserve training and a lot of rock climbing.
Too old now.
I watched bear grylls do the foreign legion training.
It looked like those awesome physical training , intermixed with mental challenges .
Very similar to the SAS.
I was on a camp with some SAS guys as a medic and they ran, jogged a full marathon with rifles and packs, then hunkered down with no shelter in the rain, then were woken at 2am after virtually no sleep and made to perform complex map reading trigonometry whilst being screamed at by an NCO.
I love resilience training.
I cant understand why people don't want to see it a part of all human training.
Train hard and play easy is my motto.

Theres a lady at my equestrian club who is very inspirational . She could do the foreign legion.
Rode a full round of cross country with broken ribs.
She has done the Hawaii ironman, and ridden the tour de france route every year for the last 15 years.
We need to celebrate such people and hold them up as role models.
Weakness needs to be seen for what it is ....weakness.
You get more of whatever you reward...pavlov taught us this.
Time to reward strength and ignore weakness.
ciao

Really north , it isn't rocket science.
Countries like france, Holland etc are seeing a lot of muslim enclaves.
Now we can PRETEND its all "rich tapestry win/win" but the public have stopped buying it.
As a rough , Hugh Mackay type guess I would think 50 % of the population of france are worried about the muslim issue.
If the centrist politicians wont address the issue , then the right wingers will gain ground.
So its up to the moderate muslims and sensible politicians to relentlessly stick the boot into the "non assimilators".
Its in their best interest.
This is just common sense and pragmatism.
Of course, for this reason, it is unlikely to happen Wink

Correct, Aqua.

The most unstable element in Britain and Australia is the Muslim Factor ~ and the pollies are doing absolutely nothing about it.

They're leaving the violent consequences to the politicians of Tomorrow who will be forced to deal with it.

Why the Hell was he screaming? In a real situation that would have brought mortar-fire upon them from the enemy.

Idiotic NCO. He should have been whispering.

Wink Wink Wink

it was an army motto to never volunteer.
the other thing i liked about the army was that if you had a problem and went to a superior with it, very often the response would be
"that sounds like a personal problem"
and that was the end of the story.
ie.   legitimate complaints are welcome.
complaints for the sake of complaining are a personal issue and you had to just "deal with it"
i think there is a good lesson there for kids, parents, teachers, employees, politicians etc.
very often, people need to be told to "just deal with it" "its not my problem"

More's the pity.

How many girls (and boys) have reported sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and buggery, only for this to be fobbed off as 'personal and not army business?

And then when it finally gets to court and the story reaches the media ~ the whole country is disgusted at how the victims have been treated so shabbily by ranking personnel whose job it was to nip such persecution in the bud.

Sorry Aqua ~ I don't share your admiration for the more brutal and stupid aspects of the macho culture that exists in the army.

Too much scope for bullying until people start committing suicide.

Well, that's what pollies do... They are by necessity Machiavellian and at high risk of contracting chronic cynicism.

There's a Western caveat to the political cliche: "Never let an imagined crisis go to waste"... Being: Where that crisis does not vilify a minority.

In such cases those issues must be managed by (a) forums like this (where blank anonymity - or simple irrelevance - is prevalent) where the dyspeptic can fart at will... then (b) dog-whistle political rhetoric.

The French are arseholes.

For decades they've been facilitating the transfer of Muslim illegals into Britain through the Channel underground trains.

It's anti-homosexual. That hardly qualifies it as a Far Right party.

It simply doesn't approve of arse-games between highly neurotic men.

I would have thought being anti gay would qualify as far right.

It is hardly a view of the centre or the left, is it?

That's right. Those pesky French have the nerve to live next door to Mother England.

Sure, the UK is exhempt from the EU treaty on free movement within European borders. Sure, the French check trains and trucks with human heat sensors. Sure, there's a passport check to exit France and enter the UK.

But those French will do everything in their power to foil Mother England at all costs.

The enemy? It's not the Muselman, Herbie, it's the French.

Always, absolutely, never ever, non?

Not really, PF. Some of my best friends are anti-gay.

Not that there's anything wrong with it.

Anti-gay is not far right.
Anti-gay is normal.

Far right is advanced.
