There was this thing called the "Black Plague" that devastated 30% of Europe's population. The survivors developed a strong immune system that has been passed down over the generations, to a point that people of caucasian ancestry can withstand epidemics better than most other ethnicities.
some people have immunity to HIV. I saw a documentary which showed how medical researchers traced the ancestry of these modern day people who have immunity to HIV, they were all traced back to a couple of small villages in england. Using the old village records they showed that these people were all related to a small number of plague survivors from these villages.

Yes I agree. Much tougher to survive in Europe than more temperate climates, its also why our technology is so much more advanced.
