This kind of stuff to me speaks to the integrity, not only of individual posters, but the entire community that is the Oz Politics board.
Now I am generally one of the first to say that ideals (like integrity) are fairly subjective things that are fluid and open to individual interpretation. However, the other "reality" is that perceptions are also linked here and perceptions are not necessarily based in fact.
All of that said, to my mind (just my opinion) reactive moderation is not demonstrative of a high level of "community" integrity. Of course I understand that moderators are volunteers who do this in their spare time only. Obviously that means there will be some limitations naturally to levels of how proactive moderators can get. However, it does not seem that there is any degree of significant proactive moderation here.
Just by the by and a bit off topic. I think it is important to point out to some here, who by virtue of what they say and at times how they say it may need a bit of a reminder that the exact same laws (particularly about stalking, bullying, degrading, libel etc) that would come into play in Real Life, can be enforced equally regarding online activities. Your perceived anonymity no longer equates to a virtual "get outta Gaol" free card.
The consequence of that, for me, is that I will not waste my time PMing moderators seeking permission (as it were) for them to act. However, if a legal line is crossed I will, without fear, favor or apology take what I personally deem to be appropriate actions externally to protect my well being, interests and person.
As I have demonstrated, I will inform you via feedback generally.
