Lance Franklin

Buddy has been involved in a car accident where he smashed into 4 parked cars in his girlfriends Jeep.....Sydney spent $10 million to secure Lance Franklin from Hawthorn at the end of last season.....The high profile forward has had a rocky start to his career at Sydney and it is only the beginning of the 2014 season....Does anyone else think Buddy might be more trouble than he is worth or even if he is worth the huge amount of money Sydney paid for him???

$10 million dollars seams to be a lot to pay for any football player IMO.....Especially one who is as controversial as Buddy Franklin!!!

Huh Huh Huh

As a Swans supporter i think the deal stinks.

I would have given him 5 more years absolute maximum in the game.

It has flown in the face of what i would call the Bloods culture. We'd be better off with Jesse White and Big Mummy in the team.

We'll be too top heavy when Goodes, Reid and Tippett come back.

Heywood Broun is full of crap. I've seen many a young man build character through their sport. Learn teamwork, commitment to their team mates, learn to listen to and respect coaches and mentors.

I agree I cannot see why the Swans paid so much for Franklin when they already have an abundance of quality big forwards!!!

I also think you missed the point of the quote in the fact that many young sports people have natural ability and achieve a great deal beyond their ability on the field....It is how they handle the accolades and fame that reveals their true character.....Some athletes achieve greatness but are not great people!!!

Well if the quote needs explaining then it's useless.

Well, another nice quote!

Perhaps ones character can only be built on once it is revealed as to what it is however?!!?

*Sure....they're anti competitive as any subsidised job is.  It wouldn't be there without the tax payer.  Very damned difficult for a brainwashed collectivist to understand that I know....  (swaggy) *

Yet only if the character of the person is worthy to begin with.....When adversity strikes some people their true character is exposed....Lets not forget the quote also extends to exposing strong character as well!!!

The quote was a generalization which does not apply to every individual.....I agree sport does build character in some people but it also reveals it in the both positive and negative aspects of the human condition.....Oscar Pretorius is a classic example of someone who's character was flawed yet sport elevated him to hero status......Many AFL and Rugby stars are elevated to hero status only to be revealed as having very flawed characters.....I believe someone who's character grows within a sporting culture has that character to begin with and sport helps to nurture it or reveal it for what it truly is.....You cannot make a silk purse from a sows ear!!!
