I did once reckon they were okay. For the last several weeks/months I have deliberately not used one, and everyone still seems to thoroughly understand what I have said and meant.

There are some here who overuse them, I guess in some sort of attempt to either abuse or leave weazel room.

Who is in favour of a trial for say a week, where they are not available?

Let's see who can communicate using words.

I agree with nef.. what about the pictures....????..

they are worse than the smilies..

you know what I would like... no movement..I hate moving avatars.sigs call them what you will..

I move past as quick as I can..

its all about saying something without really saying anything at the end of the day...

but everything is irritating if its over done..

You know what I hate? "xx" on the end of every text message - especially from people I don't regularly kiss. My boss's wife is really bad with this - she seems to add more of them with every text.
