Rolf facing the music

I broke the story here on Rolf long, long ago. Got bashed because I said he'd been charged but the link I supplied had said he was. (For the record he wasn't he was under investigation)

My post went ballistic over 15,000 hits, with many here racing to defend Rolf.

Well he has been charged and the evidence is stacking up and stacking up.

Not too many defenders out there now I see.

I thought Rolfs children didn't want anything to do with him yet she's there too...... He virtually abandoned them for his career I was led to believe.

The English messageboards were full of it too, months before it hit the aussie press. I remember being surprised when our papers were saying an un named Australian, when he had obviously been personally mentioned in the English press for ages.

I was hoping it was just a false alarm, coming on the back of all the Jimmy Savile publicity. But it seems not. It seems as if he had a bit of a reputation. Such a shame.

The one constant we seem to be seeing is that whether it is religious figures or entertainers or anyone in any position of authority, other people who maybe knew of it or heard of it just kept out of it. Everyone now is quick to think they would not tolerate it, they would have reported it, but I am not so sure, I think most of us might have decided to mind our own business too, especially if we didn't have personal proof.

I am glad this is finally being addressed in court. It should have happened years ago, when these incidents occurred. I am so sick of hearing about allegations of child abuse that were covered up or ignored and the perpetrators protected. Whether Rolf Harris is guilty or innocent is for the court to decide, but his victims deserved to have their day in court a long time ago.

I have almost as much disgust for the adults who failed to do anything or who covered things up in these situations as I do for the perpetrators. I hear people say that they were afraid of the ramifications for them if they said anything or didn't participate in the cover up and I have no patience for it.

Turning a blind eye or protecting the perpetrator was nothing other than cowardly and self-serving and it should, in my opinion, be regarded as such. Those people should be ashamed of themselves. The victims were CHILDREN, far more vulnerable than any adult. It is an utter indictment on a society that has always claimed to want to protect children that these things were not dealt with when they happened.

I sometimes think that we should create a group of offences specifically aimed at people who fail to act when an accusation of child abuse is made.

Let's wait until the full facts and some decent corroboration come in... so far all I've heard is 'alcoholic' and 'consensual relationship' after 'childhood abuse'....

Correct in all ways - most of us may have said nothing - ESPECIALLY without personal knowledge. A close family member revealed such a thing with regard to one now deceased - I did not doubt her word for one moment, and was shocked. I can only conjecture as to what I might have done at the time... had I known.

However - in cases like this - without personal knowledge - people have no right to condemn....

I'll stop you right there, Schu. Until it is proven beyond any reasonable doubt and to a proper standard of Law - they are not HIS victims, and may not be victims at all, and may be victims of someone or something else entirely.......

Be wary of assuming he is guilty even when you couch it in terms of 'whether or not' first.... you would not pass jury selection with that double-barreled comment....

Did Mrs Harris accompany Rolf on his tours? I very much doubt it.

Sometimes these celebrities have split lives, they're out on the road most of the time, that's their life, the wife and kids are at home base leading what most of us would call a normal life, they have no part in the celebrity side of the relationship at all. They wouldn't have a clue what's going on and probably don't care all that much as long as the housekeeping money is coming in. The 'star' makes an appearance every once in a while, for whatever reason, maybe more to convince himself or the rest of his family that he really is a good bloke.

I read a newspaper article about him several weeks ago that said a lot more about his shenanigans than was on the internet at the time.

For obvious reasons they described him as 'The Octopus' at the TV station he worked for. Grin

Of course she knew.

We see her now emerging from court each day with a big smile on her face, instead of anger and embarrassment, and rumours of divorce.

He had fantasised with a whole lot of paintings and drawings of girls in all stages of undress. She would have seen this at home.

A great many women are frigid, and only too glad if their husbands don't jump their bones too often, if at all.

maybe but if you read this womens account she went on holidays with the harris family...

I agree about the money.. who knows but he seems to have a lot of porn on his computer...can we presume it didnt just stay on his computer?..
