A prisoner inside the jail where disgraced entertainer Rolf Harris is serving his sentence for child sex offences says the safety of the 84-year-old is under threat.

"Rolf is a hate figure for many in prison. Attack him, you're going to get some notoriety," said a witness after the Australian was targeted during an incident in Bullingdon's Mens Prison in Oxfordshire.

Authorities confirmed that Rolf wasn't physically injured in the incident after a brawl erupted when an inmate tried to spit on him.

The spit hit another prisoner, sparking a violent attack that forced Harris into the corner.

"One prisoner called Rolf a dirty nonce and spat at him. All the others were jeering too, but the spit landed on the bloke next to Rolf, who went beserk," a bystander told The Sun.

"Rolf stood in a corner while the other prisoner was taken to a segregation unit. Then he just sat back down. He was shaken up, but didn’t let on."

News of the incident came as it was announced Harris has applied for permission to appeal against his convictions for a string of indecent assaults.

Harris was jailed for five years and nine months for the sex abuse, so he is due to serve just under three years for the crimes, which occurred between 1968 and 1986.

A spokesman for the Judicial Office confirmed lawyers had lodged papers at the Court of Appeal this week.

Harris was convicted of 12 indecent assaults on June 30 at Southwark Crown Court - one on an eight-year-old autograph hunter, two on girls in their early teens and a catalogue of abuse of his daughter's friend over 16 years.

The court will now consider whether to grant permission for him to continue with his appeal bid.

Earlier this week, the Attorney General's Office confirmed the sentence would not be referred to the Court of Appeal for being unduly lenient.

Harris, a family favourite for decades, was finally unmasked as a predator who was fixated with under-age girls during his trial, with jurors told how his 16-year campaign of sex abuse against his daughter's friend "haunted" her and made her abandon her dreams as he continued to be adored by millions of fans worldwide.

His fall from grace was underlined as he was stripped of a Bafta fellowship and accolades in Australia were removed, and he faces losing his prestigious CBE.

The performer's multi-million pound fortune is also at risk from potential compensation claims.

Debbie Burns is a classical example of how many of these claims made decades later should be ignored.

She's had plenty of time to do something well prior to now.... she being 57 yrs old.

She can't remember where, when or who ..... so she posts it on Facebook looking for help Roll Eyes

Must be due to her prior drug & alcohol abuse affecting her memory. I'd I've thought if it was so traumatic & affecting her so badly she would have remembered every last detail.

Now she seems to be chasing shadows from her past, either to bring her name to light or in hope of another pay day.

My 1st cousin baby sat for her .... she'd be able to tell me a thing or two I bet .... but I'm not asking.

As for what's happening to Rolf in gaol & any threats made to harm him ...... I find that fairly disturbing.

Why do low life scum professional criminals who more than likely have committed worse offences against society than Harris think they should be able to judge & further punish/harm any other prisoner?

Those sick mongrels that killed James Bulger have been protected their whole prison life .... & are now out I believe.

What is my interpretation? I also see nothing shameful. I was watching her career unfold, saw her star rise and fall.......among very public stories of consensual sexual activity with at least one much older male.

No hint of blaming the WOMAN there, Emma - Aussie is merely pointing out that the lady, by her own admission, has suffered a lot of alcohol and drug abuse, which renders her memories and motivations suspect. These problems are not only the province of the abused - and drug abuse is notorious in those who have fame etc, and is often part of the scene.

I used to be a pro actor - I know a few bodies burial places and stories that get around. It is a truly amazing business in which many 'peccadilloes' are simply glossed over in the interest of creating the product - whether it be music or film or whatever.

Crews etc separate the two, job and insider knowledge of faults - it means their career if they speak out.. trust me on this.

well Aussie I also was in melbourne at that time of MY life.

I had a friend.. OK? who went to school with her. Her observation.. as an adult looking back.. was she needed attention.. she needed to be loved.. who knows why we have these sorts of needs.??? . but its unfair to presume you have any idea why this was so...

This is nothing but a smear on the character of a person.. whom ..you said.. pretty well everyone in Australia 'knew'.

Get out of it DOG.

Walk a mile in HER SHOES.. then you may have some credibility.
