Don't shoot me - I'm not defending the guilty - merely defending the innocent, including those innocent until proven guilty to the proper standard.

Let us await on facts.... and so far these are a bit unsound as regards the accusations... just commenting on what has passed in the court to date.... instead of some revenge mission that ends up with all dead.....Allow me to encapsulate what I've heard and read so far:-

Woman 1 says - 'molested on trip to Hawaii at age 13' - her diary on the day in question says nothing about this and says 'happiest day of my life'.  She says that after the Jimmy whoever thing it is more likely she woukd be believed, of which I have no doubt judging by Herb's response.

Witness 2 says - I was told by my sister that RH had molested her causing her years of alcohol abuse.  Not much substance there - second hand years after the event from a dedicated alcoholic.

Woman 2 says - RH touched my bum and held it during a show etc.  The defence has quoted that RH was not in that town on that day.  I am awaiting the defence offering something like a diary or whatever to show RH's gigs, but they do not need to do so since the burden of proof is on the accuser.

RH sends a letter of apology after being told Woman 1 did not refuse sex with him due to feeling in awe of RH.  In that letter he says how low he feels - but also says that all contact was after she turned 18 - and it continued for nine years after that.  Read that as you wish.

People years after the event now come up with 'he's a grub and I always said so' - then why not say so publicly before?

As I said - I am not defending the guilty - I am defending the rule of law here and of evidence and I am trying to not allow emotions to colour my judgement.

in cases like this..[children].. when it does get exposed.. its he said she said....

its all in history...

however most cases are thoroughly investigated before charges are made....there is usually more than one victim....in most cases the victims do not know each other and are interviewed separately..

most from what I have read.. do not talk about what happened to them its hardly an everyday topic after all...and a lot of people men and women are thoroughly ashamed of what took place..

it would to my mind take a lot of courage to tell someon e the police for instance as they would want every minute detail..

I think you need to be realistic... and realise something did go on was it just touching and fondling.. who knows.. the things is should it have happened at all...... and the answer is NO..he was a grown up.. they were children..

it doesnt matter if he was looking through keyholes into the bathroom.. he should have known better

some think celebrity opens doors and gives them special rights....maybe that has something to do with it..

my thoughts are if said person had any respect or self worth they would never have allowed this behavior to have blossomed....they would seek help..both men mentioned here have families.. who will have been badly affected by all of this. as well.. it isnt just a mans word against a childs.....its more than that...Rolf has shown some remorse... though why he would write to a womens father confessing I do not know...according to him she was 18... therefore her dad had not a thing to do with anything so that in itself seems strange to me...

the dog thing I thought was a shocker and give a lot of insight into this mans thinking...

For a $50 pay bonus each time? You must be kidding. There'd be such a clamour to get that easy money as often as possible that they'd have to put it on a rostered basis.

Airport staff routinely pull people off the exit queue and do the honours with a latex glove.

Dont be silly Herbert, the government would rather spend that $50 on special priveleges for prisoners. Its about minimising the discomfort to the underpriveleged misunderstood law breakers, not maximising it. You are out of touch with government policy.

They are not 'law-breakers', they are simply innocent people who .. "made a mistake".

In the UK they're not put into jail even after convictions for 15 previous 'mistakes'.

You can run-up 16 'mistakes' in the UK and still the courts will let you back onto the streets.

It's nothing to do with 'crime' ~ it's all about .. making a mistake.

Pray do not confuse the two cases - one is settled on what are the accepted facts as stated - the other is still under consideration, and under no circumstances may you find guilt in a case totally separate in every way from one already concluded on an entirely different set of issues.

You must deal, mambas of the jury, with the FACTS as presented and proven properly at THIS trial - and no other!

Well, okay Grappler ~ I'll reserve my verdict until the conclusion of the trial, but even so it's my guess that he'll be subjected to cavity searches before too long.

"Mr Harris ~ we're here to give you a cavity search. Is that okay with you?"

"Sure can ... "

***

I did casual work at Dulux Paints in Sydney's Padstow where Rolf Harris had once visited and did one of his paintings on the wall. I actually worked only a few feet away from this painting.

It's incredible how many otherwise good men have been brought low because they obeyed the Voices in their pants.

I agree - if he's genuinely guilty, hang him and hang him high!

I am very fond of Henry Fonda in Twelve Angry Men....:-

"It just seems to me that if we're dealing with a man's life here, we should maybe talk about it first."

Also the ending in Judgement at Nuremburg where the Nazi judge is condemned and pleads with the American Judge:-

"I didn't know it would come to that".. (meaning all the innocents murdered), to which Spencer Tracey replied:-

"It came to that the first time you condemned a man knowing he was innocent!"

Let us await the facts and the evidence and the proper weighing thereof - this is NOT - nor will it ever be while I draw breath - trial by emotion or guilt by accusation to suit some concept of protecting the victim when all you may well be doing is creating another victim.  It is my oft stated and repeated position that the very aim of such moves is to reduce the standard of proof over all and thus reduce rights and person power in society and hand more of it to government and its agencies - a sure sign of a despotic government and something stridently wailed for by certain groups currently accorded 'accredited victim status'.

The rate of wrongful conviction in the US - the most prison populous country - is estimated at 1:50 and 1:6 - depending on if you are a prosecutor etc or a defender.

That 1:6 fits with the figures Schu showed a few days ago of possible wrongful accusations for molestation, and it matters not one whit if many of these are concocted to provide leverage in divorce etc proceedings in a different arena with a different standard of proof, since they tend, as does 'domestic violence legislation' to render the courts more susceptible to a finding on the civil standard of 'balance of probabilities' instead of 'beyond
ANY reasonable doubt' - something I warned against in a 1992 submission to the Law Reform Commission.

I referred Schu to Ramsey Ohio and his study of wrongful conviction.

https://etd.ohiolink.edu/ap/10?0::NO:10:P10_ETD_SUBID:79146

I note that Ramsey's figures have been downgraded from 1:6 to 1:20.... not sure why this is so..... the original said up to 1:6.

"The 798 respondents indicate they believe wrongful conviction occurs in 1 to 3 percent of all felony convictions. With more than 2,000,000 individuals incarcerated in the nation’s prisons and jails, this error rate would signify that between 20,000 and 60,000 individuals are incarcerated for crimes they did not commit."

Wait for the movie. It'll be out next year. All will be revealed. They didn't used to call him "The Octopus" for nothing.

Umm - I used to do that stuff at airports during the Unibomber scare.... we did body pat-downs, but not the cavities..... the Feds did that... and no liquids were allowed onto aircraft... that meant some of the guys had some very nice wine etc. to drink.

Heeeey - I just bought that Bastringleux 1897 Special Vintage Limited Edition!  It's RARE!

Sorry, sir - CONFISCATED! I'm sure it will taste good!

Some great treasure can be had when working airport security - confiscate stuff that never gets into the safe... you'd be amazed.

I don't think I would be.

How much heroin and cocaine was skimmed off the top?  Roll Eyes

The feds should have been giving the Airport Customs guys cavity searches ... not the passengers.

Were you there when the feds uncovered the Muslim Middle Eastern baggage handlers who were stealing stuff and facilitating drug trafficking through Sydney's Mascot airport?

One of those guys was later jailed for writing a handbook on bomb-making for Islamic terrorists.

There may be hope for Rolf Harris yet. If they do a remake of Octopussy Rolf should be a prime candidate for the role of the arch villain.

After all, with a nickname like Octopus because his hands are everywhere, he should be a shoo in ...yes?

The more I read the testimonies against Rolf Harris, the more I realise just how much of a loathsome travesty of a man this pathetic creature was. He simply didn't care if his behaviour shocked and embarrassed his victims.

He literally grabbed what he wanted with not the slightest sense of guilt or remorse for his actions.

A real Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

He'll be on home detention for the rest of his life.
