While I agree that individually his offences were minor, it is the opportunistic abuse of his position and the constant offending that is serious.
If he weren't the famous person he was I doubt he'd even get a custodial sentence, but because he is he will, and in my opinion, rightly so.
I agree too that there should be follow-up prosecutions of all those who allowed him to get away with it, and in the Saville case too, and the Hey Dad also, if it weren't for their complaisance these offenders would never have been able to do what they did.
In some ways turning a blind eye to offending can be seen to be even worse than the initial offense!  Angry

I didn't know you were moderating this or any other thread. It would help if a list of mods were prominently displayed at the head of every thread page.

In this case you'll be relieved to know that I forgive you.  Smiley Tongue

I think we need to realise he had a problem a BIG PROBLEM.

EXPLOSIVE evidence kept secret from the Rolf Harris jury can now be fully reported for the first time.

Nothing that could taint the London jurors could be published in the UK until the verdict – meaning an internet blackout for some of the most shocking claims of all against the once-beloved entertainer.

Damning claims never heard by the jury were made during pre-trial argument, including that Harris downloaded child porn, cruised dirty sites with names like ‘Youngest Teen Porn’ and attempted to erase his browsing history.

The jury was also banned from hearing from other witnesses who painted a picture of Harris as a lecherous old man, with a judge ruling their evidence prejudicial.

And they certainly didn’t get to read about long-standing rumours within Australian entertainment circles that Harris had abused young women.

Shocking allegations emerged during the pre-trial arguments that Harris had attempted to erase pornographic images of young girls from his computer in 2012.

Prosecutor Sasha Wass, QC, told the court that Harris, 84, had searched websites with names like Russian Virgins, My Little Nieces and Youngest Teen Porn, searching for images of underage girls.

Ms Wass said she would not describe the images due to their graphic nature.

The images were on galleries involving “very young people in various levels of forbidden poses”, and were believed to have been of girls under the age of 13.

And im betting there's more to come... if he doesn't get a jail term and gets off lightly.. im also betting others will come forward...n

No kangaroo courts here gnads...  Wink

In fact... he should be given the same treatment as about 1000 kangaroos that I saw today heading east out of Longreach... splattered all down the roads being hit by road trains in various stages of decay. .. I've never seen anything like it and I've travelled to all parts of Australia now. .. blood  stains for 100kms or more on one of those light gravelled roads...  Shocked

Well you're not a mod then are you? When you begin to make half the contribution and effort that I put into posting here, then maybe you can start making snide remarks about me not being on topic, and that I'm 'hanging by a thread', and that I'm a 'wimp', etc.

Until then I suggest you develop a little humility where I'm concerned, and don't play the smartarse bitch with me from a position of having little if any value yourself on this forum board.

Know your place on the totem pole and we'll get along just fine.

Are you seriously suggesting that opportunistic public groping is the same as the brutal rape and murder etc that happens all too often?
The families of the victims of the murderers and pornographers might have something to say about that!
Let alone the ongoing horror of those forced into prostitution!
So yes, I'd say his offenses were on the minor end of that scale, but I ask you to read my earlier posts about him and his punishment please.

It is totally unfair to compare Rolf Harris' crimes with other varieties then rate them on a scale of ten as to importance.

He did the crimes, he psychologically damaged his victims to the point that they are still suffering years after the events.

The learned Judge will give Rolf a sentence in keeping with the seriousness of his crimes, which ARE major not minor.

When a predator preys on young and innocent lives he deserves the full force of the law, I expect he will get it.

are you suggesting... brutal murder and rape dpo not start with touching and feeling.......

as a matter of fact my 14 yr old grandson had two girls tell him that a certain boy had done exactly that to them in school grounds...he had the sense to tell the teacher....

14 yr old boy touching two girls.......where do you think that may lead????????..

look at Rolfs history he was touching 8 year olds...do you seriously think had he been the butcher down the street it would have gone further.. he was famous for most of his adult life..he surrounded himself with kids.....

perhaps you should also note about the CHILD PORNOGRAPHY HE VIEWED......

you see even though you may not be touching these children the  fact you buy into view  it.. is what keeps it going... and the poor children.. left to commit suicide or drink themselves into oblivion....

it all starts somewhere aust..a bloke doesnt suddenly become a paedo.overnight...

like children who murder... they usually start off killing animals..theres a lot to Rolf the world didnt know about... even to him making films about Stranger Danger..... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I find it really weird because he didnt throw them to the ground and rape them he isnt too bad... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Ive been reading about Todd Carney[ not on here] but some think because he is a good footballer he should be excused .. Grin Grin.. they forget about all the times he has been  e xcused... and look what he does???..

its the same with Rolf..

the entertainment industry well knew what he was like and warned people never to leave him alone with children...and to watch the big hugs....yet it was kept quiet..because of fame..

.he even made Stranger Danger films for school children.....I mean come on!!!!!!!!!... all the while touching up children...

imagine 84 year old touching your 8 year old child like that.......because once you do... then you keep on doing... Angry

He'll appeal, he'll get bail until the appeal is heard, and who knows?

He'll also appeal any sentence and most likely get it reduced.
