Good to see them completely ignore any environmental ramifications like drowning an entire limestone karst system

More detail please.  We non-Parkes people have no real idea here... but I am interested.

In advocating the GAIA Concepts which include massive industrialisation of the Pilbara etc Regions, as I do here, it is a given that there will need to be massive infrastructure such as dam building to cater to this new, clean-energy, easy-access to resources regeneration of Australia and is people.  (I also reckon we should become a 'tax haven' like the Bahamas and build a few casinos along the way and reap the profits like Monte Carlo.....my god, how the money rolls in).

Anyway such environmental issues will undoubtedly arise when the GAIAs begin....... we don't want to stomp on the swamp romp of the rare marsupial Left Banded Dingocoot, do we?  Or was that the Left Winged Bandicoot or Left Dinged Bandicoot?

Oh - I recall a few years back that large concerns were raised over the dam built in the Upper New England West and its long term impact on water flows etc in the Murray Darling Basin.... you know, amazingly fisheries had people out there to check you didn't take too many freshwater fish.... fisheries bloke stole my woman... everyone hated him anyway and he deserved her..... slut....

Anyway - it seems that all is not golden streams (or is it) when it comes to large dams etc.... or women.... hmmm....

I think no matter where they put a dam, there will always be objections .... The fact remains that we need more dams.

Sure some areas are more suited than others, but since I don't know anything about this region, I can't comment on this particular dam.

Australia could start world's first underwater city and begin induction courses for living with consequences of global warming by man evolving into amphibians if not sea creatures.

Well its going in the back of Canowindra on the Belubela River at  a point called the Needles. Fortunately at this stage its only funding for the EIS. The problem is its being driven by a National MP who doesnt really seem to give a poo about anything other than the water.

Just back though of the dam is the Cliefden cave system, probably about 95 caves, most of which will be flooded and damaged by the dam. Wehn you flood the caves you essentially kill them off.

And John, I agree Australia needs more dams, it just needs to be smart about where they go. Plus I also like how theres funding for a dam, but no funding to help people fix the infrastructure regarding pipes or anything like that.

I live 300plus metres above sea level, I like the idea of the coast getting a bit closer, bring it on.

Dam building is in my DNA, the need for water is primal I cant help wanting more water.
My belonging to farming is similar to the indigenous link to the land.

I can never see a problem with building a dam, perhaps I am part beaver?

So the town loses much of it's tourist attractions & what put it on the map for yet another dam?

And on another tributary into the already stressed & degraded Murray- Darling system.

Sheer madness. Mindless LNP boofhead.

I don't think though that the argument will be won with the whole cave damage thing. Its going to have to be an argument over economics and usefulness. The Belubela already has a dam on it. The next river over has a bigger dam on it, with more inflow that never really gets to 100% full. What makes them think this dam will be any better?
