In order to be a 'migrant' it presupposes that one arrives at a country that has at least some basic civil infrastructures, societal organisation, elements of civilisation, some technology, etc etc.

You just make this poo up as you go, Larry, or is someone feeding you this crap?

Oh, we’re feeding him. Can you imagine Herbie passing up on the cornucopia of benefits the Australian welfare state dishes out to the blue-rinse set?

It’s to thank them, you see, for bringing us Civilisation.

I think you're over cooking this one example Aussie but let's not make out here we did a family man with kids out of a job.

Um, no.

If they are brown, they're queue-jumping welfare cheats.

This is "general knowledge".

Yet factual statistics indicate around 80% end up welfare recipients.

And?

I don't see why we have to import people to be unemployed/unemployable here.

Do you?

"welfare recipient" doesn't necessarily mean unemployed.

You do realise that, don't you?

Thank you Five Fire Doors. Very useful.

Everyone starts at the bottom.
I was a junior accountant in London many years ago.

There weren't no family men with mortgages applying for them then either!!

You did a young Aussie out of getting a career start.............for a Yank who had a job.

We didn't get any Aussies through the door!!!!!

Really?  And who were you referring to here?

in my town, it was all about who you knew .... A guy who started his 2 year Ass. Dip Acc. with me was still trying to finish it 5 yrs later because he kept failing subjects, but he was already branch manager of a local tax office ....  he was a nice bloke but dumb as dogshit and I would never ask him to do my taxes

I was underqualified for the big Accounting firms, overqualified for accounts clerk type jobs ... in the end I used the Ass. Dip for toilet paper.

This is my point though.
Recently we did some hiring in Melbourne.

1. Assistant Accountant roles/junior Analyst. Grade 1 roles paying no more than 70.
2. Finance Manager division paying circa 175k.

We had nothing but Asians and Indians through the door for 1).
These are about a year out of uni (which is about right).

Candidates for 2) were mainly Aussies or an odd European.

Now obviously experience was vastly different.
But to quote our MD down there. Where are all the Aussies coming through?
What happens in 10 years time? Where are the managers coming from?

It's actually a significant concern for the industry as to why we aren't attracting strong local candidates.

I didn't do first round interviews but from review of CVs they were from India and China and had gone to uni in Australia.
They weren't born in Australia. They were immigrants.

Andrei, it is a pissy point but you have made dramatically conflicting statements.

1.  "Took about the 6th candidate before we had a white Aussie."

2.  "We didn't get any Aussies through the door!!!!!"

Credibility.

Andrei, you admitted you had at least 7 candidates for the job .... in Australia, at the time you advertised ... there was clearly no need to import labor, it's already here,  and somehow you claim there is a skills shortage?

Ok any Aussies that were any good.
They were certainly not in the majority.

It was Chinese girls or Indian guys.

I spoke to the recruiter who I've known 10 years about it.

His response "I know, I know but that's all that's on the market mate. It's terrible these days"

Good lord. Is this point hard to come across?
I said the industry has a shortage of local quality accountants in Australia.
And it does!!!!!

The fact that the majority applying for the low paid junior roles are mainly non-Aussies tells you that!!!

We didn't "need" to import that role, it was a best fit at the time.
We had someone who knew the role and wanted to move to AUS.
We moved her and recruited her backfill in New Jersey.

Rather than a chick with pigeon English from Cranbourne thanks!
