Andrei, it is a pissy point but you have made dramatically conflicting statements.

1.  Took about the 6th candidate before we had a white Aussie.

2.  We didn't get any Aussies through the door!!!!!

Credibility.

Ok any Aussies that were any good.
They were certainly not in the majority.

It was Chinese girls or Indian guys.

I spoke to the recruiter who I've known 10 years about it.

His response "I know, I know but that's all that's on the market mate. It's terrible these days"

So, did you get a white Aussie 'through the door,' or not?  Your story is not stacking up.

What does it matter whether they had Chinese or Indian heritage..............they had a permit to work in Australia, suggesting to me they were Australians......yet your emphasis, in typical fashion, was on a 'white Aussie.'

The fact that the majority applying for the low paid junior roles are mainly non-Aussies tells you that!!!

no, the fact that you have multiple candidates In australia already (regardless of their race ...If I applied would you say 7 Indians and one Italian?) qualified and applying for the job tells you the opposite

I conceed that individual firms may have specific requirements unique to their firms, so i'm not talking specifics here ... but generally speaking, you have more accountants than you have positions .... that is not a skills shortage

You still have not told us whether they were Australians of Asian heritage.  Or are you telling us you were willing to employ someone not able to get a TFN here?

I'll just say this one more time.
There is a skills shortage. Shown by 2 things.

1. The fact the majority of candidates are immigrants from other countries.
If these people were not there then there would be no candidates. That suggests a shortage of local skills.
Just like the fact all the cleaners here are African in the NHS. It's because there is a shortage of local labour willing to do those roles for that wage.

2. It is actually listed by the Dept of Immigration as an industry with shortage of skilled workers.
If you apply for a skilled worker permit and you have qualification in Accounting you get priority in skilled entry into Australia. I have friends from London who entered AUS that way.

Yes I have. I told you they were Asians from Asia who went to university in Australia and are now trying to stay and work.

How can you lawfully employ them without a TFN, or relevant working visa status?

Good lord.
They are immigrants. They went to uni in Australia and now have TFN.
It does not make them Australians.

I am always reminded of this when exchanging with the forum's bush lawyer....

* Lawyer: "Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?"
* Witness: "No."
* Lawyer: "Did you check for blood pressure?"
* Witness: "No."
* Lawyer: "Did you check for breathing?"
* Witness: "No."
* Lawyer: "So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?"
* Witness: "No."
* Lawyer: "How can you be so sure, Doctor?"
* Witness: "Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar."
* Lawyer: "But could the patient have still been alive nevertheless?"
* Witness: "Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law somewhere."

You mean all our graduates with Economics degrees and stuff are no good?  All those with years of practicing in Australian tax etc mean nothing and we need to import skills?

You're kidding me, Andrei.  and so is the Department of Immigration.

Bull ... poo!

In order to be a 'migrant' it presupposes that one arrives at a country that has at least some basic civil infrastructures, societal organisation, elements of civilisation, some technology, etc etc

where did you dig that definition from?

The Brits who have been travelling here to live after the establishment of George III's British Australia have been colonialists, while all the rest have been migrants to the British Colonial Empire.  Smiley

That irritates the hell out of you, doesn't it, John?

There was nothing stopping your Italian Grandparents from settling in Italy's colonial possessions, was there ... except that the Brits did 'colonialism' a lot better than anyone else.  Tongue

You just make this poo up as you go, Larry, or is someone feeding you this crap?

I can't count the times I've witnessed Australian prime ministers, social commentators, kiss-arse ABC types, and the latte-lappers and chardonnay-sippers ingratiating with the 'ethnic communities' by telling them that Australians of Anglo/Celtic/Pict background have absolutely no pre-eminence in Australia any more than does a recent boat-load of Afghan asylum seekers because ....

.... "We're ALLLLLL migrants here".

This suck-arse grovelling apology to ethnic Australians has been an embarrassment to witness ever since I arrived here in 1962.

Grow some balls and stand up for yourselves you spineless wimps.
