It's actually a significant concern for the industry as to why we aren't attracting strong local candidates.

Why is that?

Because where are the next generation of Finance Mgrs and Controllers coming from?

It doesn't matter where they come from, just as long as they come.

On that one, you and I will not agree.

From my perspective the quality of the immigrant candidates from the developing world nations is not on a par with that of the more traditional sourcing of Finance Managers, such as UK, Europe and Australian candidates.

This isn't just me making this up, this is a concern shared by any number of my colleagues in the industry in Australia and by recruiters as well.

We are satisfying the headcount of junior roles using immigrant Chinese and Indian accountancy grads but there is an alarm over the hill that what happens in 10-15 years time where the people at my level need to be replaced?
Where are the Aussie guys who have come up through the ranks in industry?
Their numbers have dropped significantly.

I dont know the cause - maybe opening up the university places to foreigners, accounting is not attracting high calibre grads due to salary constraints?

I dont know the exact reasoning, only that there is a bit of an issue.

You try and hire a $65-$75k role in accounting in Melbourne and you will get majority Indian or Asian candidates. I guarantee it. It's happened 3 times out of the last 3 for my team now.

I dont know the answer either.

How many genuine refugees come here looking for a worse life ???

How many genuine refugees come here with no intention to earn money ???

Had they come here saying that they wanted to live in a slum and subsist on the dole you would then be OK with them ? I think not.

Andrei, who are these 'immigrant candidates?'  Are they Asians who received their qualifications in Asia, or are they Asians who received their qualifications in our Universities.

In each case, please explain their unworthiness for a job which pays a relative pittance.

Q. What sort of subhuman life form would begrudge a human the chance of improving their lot in life?

A.  One that was "born" in a lucky country, was given all the chances and help possible whilst growing up, and then ended up throwing his "life" down the toilet.  In other words, a jealous, spiteful, and bigoted piece of poo.

There's nothing wrong with trying to improve your lot in life.
My father did it (also we two fifths of bugger all dealt him in life) and I am trying to do the same.
I should imagine we all are.

But there are rules and laws in place.
Asylum - really if you are truly facing persecution in your homeland you'd go to the nearest point of safety.
You wouldn't cherry pick which nation you want that will give you the highest welfare assistance etc.
That's country shopping.

Nope.

However, I wouldn't condemn, or try to demonise anyone who decides to give it a go.
