Yes, how dastardly of those evil women to do all they can to avoid having their children sent back to those lovely peaceful paradises in Syria and Iraq.
Didnt they come here from Indonesia? what threat were they under there?

Refugees are not recognised in Indonesia and they are not a signatory to the convention. Refugees can not work and their children can not be educated. This is hardly an ideal location or a place they can settle long term.

So why go there in the first place?

You, like greggary seem a little confused. These people are neither refugees or asylum seekers in  Indonesia. I am  not sure why this nonsense about having no rights in  Indonesia continues to be trotted out since it does not apply to these people.

They dont go there as asylum seekers or refugees so i dont know why these posters keep parroting this nonsense. they only suddenly become asylum seekers when their $20,000 boat trip brings them into australian territory.

If they say they are seeking asylum, they are most certainly asylum seekers (that doesn't make them genuine refugees though).

If they don't say they're claiming asylum, then they are not asylum seekers.

It's not that hard.

correct, its not that hard. They enter Indonesia on torist visas so are not asylum seekers, therefore any comments about not having rights in indonesia because they are refugees are invalid because they arent. Got it now? Or do I need to draw a crayon picture?

Settle petal.

You've mistaken me for someone else.

I haven't mentioned anything about their rights in Indonesia.

ian, give it a rest old son.

You made a simple mistake.  So what? We all do.

Don't make yourself look silly by carrying on like that.

I never mentioned anything about their rights in Indonesia: you know it, I know it, and everyone else in the forum knows it.

Seriously   Roll Eyes

This was my reply:

If they say they are seeking asylum, they are most certainly asylum seekers (that doesn't make them genuine refugees though).

If they don't say they're claiming asylum, then they are not asylum seekers.

You don't even have the sense to realise when I'm agreeing with you.

You are asking the wrong person but I suspect that they think they are looking at a better option than it turns out to be.

The argument seems to go against the proposition that they are safe in Indonesia, the reason that they are not asylum seekers in Indonesia is because Indonesia does not provide asylum. They have no future or certainty in Indonesia. They are displaced people while they are there. The reason they have no access to the normal conditions of Indonesian society is not particularly relevant in terms of their position.

The fact is that refugees are not recognised in Indonesia, they have no stability, no future in the country and are vulnerable.
