Taking in only wealthy refugees is a ridiculous policy and one which you are advocating.

Here's where your argument becomes completely unhinged.

How do you suppose we differentiate between "wealthy" and "poor" refugees? You have some means test in mind? Don't be so absurd - a refugee is a refugee, it has never been about their position in society or their personal wealth. Our international obligations that we willingly signed up on has never made such an arbitrary distinction.

You think the "good" refugees that we accept from the UN are all poor and therefore more deserving? What rubbish.

It has been about the degree of need.

Yes, the need to flee persecution.

Exactly.

I really can't understand the mindset here - the blind assumption that because these people have the means to pay people smugglers, they are therefore economic migrants - so called "country shoppers".

By all means, screen the economic migrants out, but only after a full and fair assessment. The argument here is not who should and shouldn't venture out to seek asylum, but rather the obligation Australia has to process each and every claim fully and fairly.

There are Convention signatory countries next to every Middle Eastern country these people come from.

They could all go there are claim and be granted asylum.
But the ones with means are not interested in mere asylum, they want fast tracked permanent settlement (not covered by the Convention). So they are willing to fly half way around the world to claim asylum in the country where they want to settle permanently (ie migrate to).

This is what has been shut down now.

I hope you are clearer on this now.

Yes.

However, they are under absolutely no obligation to go to those countries.

Why do you have a problem with people striving for the very best they can achieve?

Thanks for strengthening my point.

Seeking asylum and seeking permanent settlement (migration) are two different thing.

These guys are interested in settlement - not covered by the Convention - rather than safety which is available to them in countries next door.

Because they riot when you offer them only temporary protection=asylum.

They can claim asylum in a neighbouring country for nothing. Why would they fly half way across the world and pay people smugglers  $10K for what is available within walking distance?

You are as thick and slow as 5 fire doors and no wonder.

So, you admit that you made a wildly exaggerated generalisation in order to support your bigoted point of view?

Now we're getting somewhere.

Seeking permanent settlement and rioting when it is not granted is NOT THE SAME thing.

You are being eyewateringly stupid on purpose, Prickadonna. It is unseemly in a supposedly grown man.

Anyone who calls another bigoted when she in in disagreement is a half-wit.

I take it you do not want to be a halfwit.

That's in the "Soren Rule Book", is it?

No.

Of course not.

You made a generalisation, based on your irrational bigotry and fear of anyone different to you.

It's par for the course.
