You can destroy the entrance but a new entrance could be made.

Easy, daisy chain explosive charges along the length of the tunnel and collapse it. I imagine that is why the Israelis are leaving, they have copped a media hit but done the job of destroying a lot of tunnels. And of course Hamas will start digging again.

I have read nothing about such methods.

I wonder if Israel have an elite corps of tunnel rats.
in the Vietnam war, the americans established a corps of volunteer guys who would go into the VC tunnels armed with a knife and a flashlight (sometimes a pistol). one of their most decorated soldiers a very small Hispanic sergent was credited with over 200 kills.
I read his memoirs. a couple of times , in headlocks, he found scooping out the opponents eyes with his thumb was an effective way of neutralising him. if ever there was a guy entitled to a pay out for PTSD it was him. but he went back to cowboying in texas.

Well Hamas is counting on Israel to come back and destroy the tunnels.

They need Israel to be portrayed as the “bad guy” in all of this.

I guess they are hoping other countries will join in and help them wipe Israel off the map. Slaughtering a few innocent Palestinians is worth that, surely?
