Advertising on roads a total joke!

Now Parramatta Council is apparently getting ready to roll out advertising, on the road surfaces in its Municipality.

What a total joke this is, a total compromise on road safety.

Here we have a blitz on using your mobile phone when driving but it is O.K. to take your eyes from what is happening in the traffic to look down and read advertisements as you drive on.

This is a complete smash in the face for the proponents of safer driving. This needs to be deep sixed and fast!

we have no bill boards in ACT its illegal... and when I venture outside the ACT I see how bloody ugly all that advertising is....I realise it all means money for basically nothing...but its hideous...and on the roads.. are you kidding me???????

can see all those shortsighters slowing down to read what they say....OMG.. is it Aprils fools day by any chance?

Reply #6 - Aug 6^th, 2014 at 12:06pm The number of roadside signs telling you to take a rest, don't drive tired etc etc erected by the local council are equalling as dangerous. Not just one sign but a line of these attention grabbing advisories which are as distracting as any commercial sign.

Hey Red, being an X copper have you any inside info you can offer us on the extent, if any, that speed cameras and traffic tickets generally are really used to boost revenue rather then safety

"Pardon me, madam.. I've pulled you over because I observed on Motorist Eye Radar you reading a roadtop advertising sign... I'm afraid that is a breach of the Motor Traffic Act since to do so distracts from your driving. Is there any reason you needed to look at that sign?"

"Ah.. eerrrrrmm..umm... it was for Hungry Macks and I'm hungry??"

If a mobile distracts you - how about kids in the car playing up etc? (flashback to a woman who had that and went off the road killing her two kids.. hit a tree)......

But the Corporate advertising dollar is far more important than pesky things like road safety

Hey I'm Spartacus2, I specialised in Traffic Accidents for 7 years of my career.

It has been my experience that speed cameras are located at know accident 'black spots' which are identified by the road accident stats.

Personally I'm not a big fan of Speed Cameras. I know for a fact that there has been a seismic shift in Traffic Policy lately. The Highway Patrol have been directed to get their cars onto the Highway and to be seen. There has been a tendency for Commanders to switch HWP vehicles onto secondary duties bleeding them away from what was once their prime responsibility.

Due to major policy instructions, the HWP are now back on the highway so be careful my friends. I have already noticed the increased presence where I live.
