How dare any journalist write a compassionate column about the persecuted Palestinians?

The Muslims here are causing no problems and for those who leave to fight overseas - don't let them back into Australia, but generally Australian Muslims can't be held accountable for what happens in other nations. Same goes for the Jews here also. So why is it that the Jews have so much more influence here compared to any other religion or race?

Australia is tagged as a secular nation, yet we bow before a selected religion.

I agree with the Islamic Council. Journalists here can write any negative article about Muslims with impunity, but dare say anything which can be misconstrued as anti-Semitic, then you are considered a criminal and made an outcast.

He resigned because of his abuse of reader and commenters, NOT because of his published article and its accompanying cartoon.
You and the imams should come up for air and think a little, rather than go off in your cutomary 'yeah, but the Jews… .' way. The article is still on the smh site and will stay. Because it is not the reason for his resignation.

well I do have to admit mantra I have yet to see any thing like carlton wrote about Israel..

I mean media thats out there in full view...

do you also agree that News Ltd was under pressure from gillard to sack smith and milne.???.....I honestly believe the SMH was more afraid of losing readers.. people who buy their twisted view of politics.. Roll Eyes

I would definitely love to see a column by carlton telling us how bad Hamas are???? if you have one.

I think it has been made pretty clear that he resigned because he was stood down. He was stood down because of the way her responded to critics of his article and not the article.

He responded to critics with verbal abuse and, arguable, anti Jewish (not all Jews are semites by the by) diatribe. As such, deserves to be reprimanded, his resignation is appropriate.

With regard to his comments that possibly could be argued to have vilified - this could be tested against 18C.

How apt might that be?

Carlton doesn't usually get too involved in international issues, unless there's a war. He was at his best during the Howard and Bush era.

Cods - you need to head over to the Islam or Extremism forums and find out where the anti-Islamist members get their material.

Where do you get your information from about Hamas and Palestine? You have to read it somewhere. Why are your sources supposedly factual and mine not when really it's just a matter of opinion.

There is nothing wrong with the SMH. I could say the same about the Australian. It has been extremely one eyed in the past.

We were told that, but how many journalists are suspended for being rude to their readers? I'm sure all media outlets would get complaints about rude responses from journalists they were hassling.

Look what Bolt gets away with - not to mention Piggy Akerman and Alan Jones.
