I read the column. It was strongly worded, and might have been over the top but essentially it had some merit.

Enter the usual trolls who deem anything that is even mildly critical of Israel as being anti-semitic. It was the response to a week and a half of abuse that got him fired not the column itself.

Mike Carlton has always been one of my favourite journalists. He is not a fascist. He has now resigned, after a suspension from the SMH not so much over his compassionate article on Gaza, but his attack on some readers who called him anti-Semitic. He lost it unfortunately and told them where to go in colourful language. Hopefully he'll pop up again somewhere soon.

There were a lot of complaints posted about this cartoon posted with his controversial article.

Mr Carlton resigned as a columnist for Fairfax over his use of offensive language towards readers complaining about a recent column and accompanying cartoon about the war in Gaza.
