Well as the leader of the National party is Deputy Prime Minister, I hardly think the question of its existence could be taken seriously.

Except you're wrong. Warren Truss (leader of the Nationals... apparently) isn't even a member of that party. He is actually a member of the Liberal National Party.

The question of its existence can be taken seriously if the leader of the party is not a member of that party.

The National Party of Australia still exists.

http://www.nationals.org.au/

Warren Truss is a Member of the Liberal National Party of QUEENSLAND because that is where he lives. He is Deputy Prime Minister.

The COALITION is made up of:

The Liberal Party http://www.liberal.org.au/
The Nationals http://www.nationals.org.au/
The Liberal National Party of Queensland http://www.lnp.org.au/
The Country Liberals http://www.countryliberals.org.au/

Hope that helps!

After Libs played Nationals, like a Banjo, on fuel tax , does anybody know if they're doing everything they can to distance themselves from the sinking ship. Where o where could they be hiding. Been nothing but silence.

Yes and Truss has been doing a good job as has Barnaby Joyce who just this week looked to secure extra market share for our farmers and graziers due to Putin's tantrum.

Victorian Libs. and Nats. in Bitter Stoush over Candidate Agreement Breach

June 18, 2014

...

Victoria’s Deputy Premier Peter Ryan, who has savaged the Liberal Party’s
- decision to mount another three-cornered contest in the new seat of Euroa

THE most senior Victorian Nationals’ MP has savaged the Liberal Party’s decision to mount another three-cornered contest, openly accusing the state administration of breaching the Coalition agreement.

Victorian Deputy Premier Peter Ryan today said the Liberal Party had ignored the facts of the Coalition agreement by running a candidate in the rural state seat of Euroa.

Mr Ryan said the decision was a rerun of the three-cornered contest in the rural federal seat of Mallee, which led to open warfare between the parties.

“Indeed, we have asked the Liberal Party not to stand,’’ he said.

Mr Ryan also said it was a "most unfortunate decision’’ and questioned the need for having an agreement when the Coalition parties were competing against each other.

"The very basis and foundation for having a Coalition agreement is to ensure we don’t see this sort of waste of resources occur,’’ he said.

"We saw this all happen in the recent federal election in the seat of Mallee. And here we go again.’’

His comments are significant because Mr Ryan traditionally falls on the side of playing down any differences between the two parties.

Warren Truss  leader of The Nationals...  check out his website.
They are actually called The Nationals these days have been for years now.

Quote:
The Hon. Warren Truss MP is Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and the Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development.

He became Leader of the Nationals in 2007 and is the longest serving federal leader of any political party in Australia today.

A third generation farmer from the Kumbia district near Kingaroy in Queensland, Mr Truss first won the federal seat of Wide Bay in 1990.

He was a Minister in the Howard Government for 10 years, serving as Minister for Customs and Consumer Affairs in October 1997, and a year later, Minister for Community Services. In July 1999 Mr Truss became the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, where he served for six years. He became Minister for Transport and Regional Services in July 2005 and, in September 2006, was appointed Minister for Trade.

Before entering Parliament, Mr Truss was a Kingaroy Shire Councillor (1976 to 1990), including seven years as Mayor. He was Deputy Chairman of the Queensland Grain Handling Authority and a member of the State Council of the Queensland Graingrowers Association for more than 10 years.

Mr Truss is also former State and National President of the Rural Youth Organisation and President of the Lutheran Youth of Queensland.

At the 2013 federal election, Mr Truss led The Nationals to the Party's best electoral result in 30 years.

Are you going to be alright when your beloved LNP are decimated come next election Grendel, or are you still pretending you didn't vote for them because you can see the writing on the wall and want to save face when we rub it in that your team lasted 1 term?

Suppository.
I'm not a fan of either major party....  could be why I didn't vote for them.
I'm not an Abbott fan due to his One Nation crap from a few years back and a few other things like how he treated Bernie Banton.
I don't like Brandis, Abetz, Robb, Sinodinos or Cormann, and probably a few more and as I keep saying both parties are very low on talent etc.
You post rubbish.
You get told and still post rubbish.
You lie about anyone and if I know differently I will pick you up on it.
To me you are a mindless biased prog, with absolutely no credibility.

It appears Warren Truss is a member of two separate parties, the nationals and the liberal nationals.

I find it odd that a person can sit in parliament as a representative of two separate political parties.

I not be able to find under the electoral act anything to do with such an event.

This makes I consider a game is being played due to lack of legislation on such things as the same political candidate seeking election as member of two different parties at the same time.
