I can’t believe this. Mr Abbott promised he’d be taking part this year. We haven’t seen him in his lycra since the erection. The Australian people were so looking forward to this.

Fancy breaking a promise like that. That’s the last time he gets my vote.

Gee, despite Abbott creating a charity that has raised $3 million dollars for charities and pedalling 16,000 kilometres to boot the Abbott-haters are still riding their broomsticks.... Sad

Just proves that nothing he does will ever win praise from losers like Dumb_as_Sh!t...

I dunno... he could always stand down, or call a DD.

As with your alter ego Greenswine, anything you post really cannot be taken seriously.

THE 1000km Pollie Pedal bike ride has begun without one of its most prominent founders - Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

MR Abbott left Australia on Saturday night for the  Netherlands to inspect some big dykes - missing quality time spent around men in lycra - and shaved legs

Mr Abbott is also expected to tell the Dutch that wind farms are rubbish, costly and inefficient

Mr Abbott last year was forced to defend claiming some travel and accommodation expenses for the ride, saying it was a "perfectly legitimate form of engagement with the community".

... besides - all the perks have gone

It's served its purpose. No need for Tony to have to put himself through that again.

It provided a bit of extra positive media exposure when he was opposition leader and bucking for the PM position.

Mission accomplished. Bicycle ride? What bicycle ride?

Maybe Abbott is being budget conscious in his decision to pull out of the ride.

What distinguishes Abbott from the dozens of politicians who have ridden the Pollie Pedal rides over the past 15 years is that he appears to be the only politician to have claimed travelling allowances and other expenses for his participation.

Thank god...Abbott has always expected taxpayers to cover his expenses while he used charities for his own self promotion so its about time that he left it to people who do it purely for altruistic reasons.
Mr Abbott...the age of entitlement is over and the hardworking Australian taxpayers cant afford you constantly ripping them off.

Last year Abbott was forced to defend his use of Australians money to pay for his personal expenses in the charity bike ride, so this year he not joining in.

So let me get this straight: Abort doesn't mind giving his time to charity just as long as everyone else pays for it.  Sounds like LNP ideology to me.

How will you ever get anything straight when your views are so twisted?
This decision must have been very recent because just the last 2 weeks the mainstream media have been saying he was going to be in the pollie pedal.
for those of you with the mronic Abbott, abbott, abbott mentality if he went in it it would be wrong and any excuse to defame the man would be made up (see above) and if he as he has apparently decided to do go O/S re the plane disaster he cops a battering too.

Question.

Polly pedal has a website where donations can be made to!

Has Abbott chucked in a couple of dollars, or does he see if it not promote him he not going to donate to it?
