We could always introduce an ellipses quota.

I can't do this, but I'm doing it anyway.

Don't stand there looking
glaikit
John Smith....... think of another word to describe whatever you are saying to keep the Mods on their toes ..... Grin

So-called colourful language is part of the Aussie vernacular.

Some people who object to the f and c words still watched Joan Rivers and Billy Connolly ......... their comedy is overflowing those words ...

Anyway, this is MY thread and it is NOT about "swearing" it is about people being so smacking lazy when they reply to a post and hit "quote" instead of just replying to the post that they are annoyed with.

Ever heard about "cut and paste"? Do you "preview" your post to check it before posting?

It's SO obvious that most people are just here to argue ... and are full of it.

glaitkit? I'm impressed ... a new one for me. Although some would consider it cheating as its not really English ...

I never swear in the Real World ..... it is uncouth.

However, on here I think that people go full on and let it all hang out. So? I fully believe that people should be FREE to do whatever they want. Within reason ...

Some pursed lipped Old Women types (male and female) carry on like it is the end of the World because somebody said "bugger" ... the TV is full of these "curses" these days.

Get with it you old farts.

There have been a few threads on this subject.

EASY QUOTING

After you've hit the REPLY button - scroll down to the post you want to quote and highlight the relevant text. On the top left hand corner of the post - hit the MARK AND QUOTE button.

Quoting 20 posts at a time is just a waste of space and avoiding this only takes an extra 2 seconds of your time.

I love the irony Aussie. Well the double irony really, firstly (ironically) that number is likely to be correct, secondly, the it is ironic that you would know that number...

Smiley

Edit: no quotes, emotes or other flamboyancies were abused in the making of this post (well except for the colour red...

Perhaps the quote button needs to go...

There is the highlight and quote bit after all (as has been pointed out).

Of course, demonstrably, proof reading does not appear to be a strength for most of us posting here. As such, there are still going to be space wasting errors...iiiiiiii

Or on purposes as this case in point demonstrates...

My pleasure, Mr. P. M. Derac.  It is weird how people reckon they have invented the wheel.  I'm sure I did it at some Forum I was a mere casual attendee (and irrelevant contributor) at.  The original Debate & Relate springs to my mind in that regard.

I'm a newbie here, but I'm a Forum Warrior of 10,000 battles on countless other boards ....... Sounds good to me, or the board admin. could remove the Quote button & replace it with a Quick-Quote button (via a mod or script)  which requires you highlight the text to quote before pressing the button, otherwise a popup warning reminds you to highlight some text before you can use it.

I seen that effectively done before  Wink

Give a man a handful of quotes and he will re-quote endlessly for years on the same subject - teach him to delete quotes he is not referring to - and he can quote on subject once for a day!!

I often switch off when the same lengthy quote is repeated over and over.... how hard is it to delete what you are not discussing there?

News Flash:-  This just in at the KRUD News Network Mail room....

The WHO has released figures that show Quotational Obesity in forum strands, a disease of over-quoting repetitious lengthy quotes, may be the root cause of a form of delirium and may lead to early dementia in those over-exposed to it.  It has also been linked to outbreaks of violence against keyboards and their users.

For the full story, tune in to our 6 o'clock full news roundup, and for a detailed discussion, our panel of experts on Comprehensive Discussion of Non-Events Today will discuss the problem  at 7.30 in a special report.
