Quotes, per se, aren't the problem.

The issue (for me, at least) is when someone (or two someones) gets into a debate and each quotes the
whole bloody 'tree' at the other, which of course grows larger and more unwieldly with each successive
'quote & post'.

Seriously, it's not necessary, and not hard to avoid. But I have to suspect that some of us have no editing
or word-processing skills whatsoever, and so can't entirely be blamed.

I think that is what the thread is about... people quoting lengthy posts yet only having a go at each other.... or someone else....we have got rid of those that filled a whole page up with a slogan like drah had a habit of doing....but this is no better who read the whole text anyway???>.. they only answer the last one...and its usually off topic.. Freediver, mate, pal etcetera ........ could you please LIMIT the quotes in posts to, say, the last 3?

It becomes most annoying when replying to a post, there are reams of quotes and somebody just says "I agree" ... then the next person quotes all the quotes and states "exactly".

Kiss

I agree. Grin

But I really do, it's a good point. I reckon it's because many of us use iPads or phones to post and it's a pain to just copy the most pertinent quote of a group. That's my excuse anyway.

YaBB does not have the same feature as phpbb that allows you to do this.

bugger.

Tell me about it.

It is effing annoying.

I think we have a rule about it already. Not sure where.

Just throwing in my bit - my brain goes to sleep when I see endless pages of repeat repeat of the same stuff... I just go to another strand.

Bullshit ..........

You should be able to reply to a post without adding ALL the rubbish.  Perhaps "REPLY" should be more relevant than "QUOTE"?

I think that too many "debates" get side-tracked due to the annoying "quote" almost every thing anyone said on the subject for the last ...... month?

Let's get back to BASICS.

"2 times 2 equals ... "

You've got my vote.

The reason we can have 5 original one-liners occupying 2 entire pages that are otherwise filled with chains of quotes is because the posters are too bone bloody-lazy to make the relevant deletions.
