Gen Y interested in music festivals not mortgages

New research suggests that the majority of young people are spending their money and time on exciting life experiences than material goods.

No longer content with a house in the suburbs, the so-called millennials, or people aged between 18 and 34, are thrill seekers wanting to squeeze the zest out of life and have no problem spending their dosh accordingly.

A new survey of millennials by Harris Poll has found that 78 per cent of them would rather spend money on a desirable experience than buy desirable goods.

After years of indoctrination from television and from the education system, and Hollywood movies and so on its no surprise the "Y" generation wants to party and have fun, fun, fun and not much else. Gen Y are the product of lefty-pinko-commie interference who teach children to always be positive and turn away from the negative resulting in a group of spineless misfits who don't want to know anything unless its about having a good time and getting laid.

They're a clueless generation of lemmings who have no respect for anyone, not even themselves.

wtf does the article even define as 'desirable goods'? before the definition of that term is on the table your whole thesis is b.s. could just mean gen y would rather go overseas or to a concert than buy an expensive car.

Has anyone noticed that most of "Gen Y" have American accents now?

I'm 23, so I can be considered Gen Y. But I sure don't think or act like most. They irritate me.

Nothing would be what it is,
Because everything would be what it isn't.
And contrary-wise - what it is, it wouldn't be.
And what it wouldn't be, it would.
You see?

Why is it any of our concern what other people spend their money on?

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

No. Maybe they just talk like them, but it ain't an accent.

That's what happens when they watch American comedy shows.

I just think of Gen Y as a bunch of people playing with smartphones and hanging out on Facebook.

As for me . . . I prefer science fiction shows. American comedy shows, particularly sitcoms are boring to me. It's all about laughing at jokes and there is no conflict, violence or politics in them. That's why I like science fiction shows. It's because they often involve political dramas, power struggles and fighting wars. How can we ignore the very thing the human race has engaged in for centuries? Cool

I have a Facebook account but don't use it. I don't find it an enjoyable experience. I don't feel a need to find out what people I knew in primary or secondary school are doing now and would rather not know. I don't care what they are doing now. I am simply not interested.

People think this generation is degenerate and decadent, getting lost in sloth and having no direction in life, preferring to engage in debauchery.

I agree, it isn't my business.

The baby boomers did party, smoke and drink more than today's youth. Many pubs have closed over the last few decades. There are fewer pubs per capita than few decades ago. Tobacco and alcohol consumption has steadily decreased over the last few decades. All statistically proven. You're totally wrong. But the older generation always blames the young one. It has always been like that.  Wink

I mean, hell, who else would be dumb enough to think the man with the yard glass skulling record would be an ideal PM?

And, as an aside, I'd love to see those stats.
